eight. but i didnt check which network it roamed to though. is there a way to do so. but there was 4g on the screen
The first 3 mentioned are Malaysia roaming partners of Eight. Since you mentioned R&F, I thought you could also still be on Eight which explains the poor network connection.

Don't know about your phone but normally I swipe down the homescreen to see the network. Even the Speedtest screen should show, no?

was at r+f princess cove JB recently visiting a friend on the 12th floor. did a speedtest with my redmi note 11 on the 288gb plan. did the speedtest thrice. all three below 1mb. has anyone experienced similar? sigh :(
Just tested the speed at Mount Austin, download speed 88Mbps, upload speed 42Mbps.

Connected to U Mobile 4G on 288gb plan.

Anyone currently roaming on Maxis network? High ping and low data speed since yesterday, Eight on Maxis seems screwed to me.

Usually I will connect manually to U Mobile or CelcomDigi for better network stability.

Umobile worked well during my 5D4N stay this week in Johor Bahru- I was at Komtar, KSL, Pelangi, mid valley, Johor Jaya, Tebrau, Mount Austin, Setia indah. Don’t use MAXIS, was around space residency and it kept sticking to MAXIS 2G, I have to manually select and change network operator Umobile.

In the past 1 month I compared maxis and celcom
Celcom gives better speed
Maxis laggy

Unfortunately at the places I frequent, Umobile/Celcomdigi 1 bar, Maxis full bar. Digi's signal used to be strong but I suspect Celcom removed some of Digi's towers after they bought over.

Suprisingly, right now Eight seems smooth, maybe because it's morning now. Will see how it goes in the afternoon and evening, and might have to force my phone to 1 bar telcos if Maxis goes bad.

as someone has mentioned a few posts ahead, next time when im there ill switch off "automatically select network" on my redmi note 11 and select the network manually. yup since r+f is close by to the causeway i believe its still on the local eight network. no wonder the speed was under 1mbps

Yes somehow eight network is still strong at CIQ area, I have to manually connect to Malaysian network to get my internet back to speed.

I've never used a Redmi phone, so can't advice on that. But I believe you've already figured it out by now. (y)(y)

And yes, SG networks can be present up to CIQ area too.

Hi guys,

Just wanna check. if i'm currently on the $8 plan and i use up my 2GB int roaming. If i upgrade my plan to the $18 which should take effect immediately, does that mean i will have 10GB more int roaming?

Once you switch to the $18 plan, doesn't that mean whatever is included in this plan will apply?

What additional? :s11:

Like what Habrosus mentioned, switching to $18 plan is immediate, whatever you have previously is history.
So from the point of switch, for the next 30 days, you will have 10GB international roaming, period.
The word more don't really apply here.

OTOH, unless you really expect to just barely exceed 8GB international data, I would suggest switching to the $11.80 plan for 8GB international data instead.
If you are already expecting to exceed 8GB, another 2GB is probably not going to be enough. At the time you are about to exceed the 8GB, you can probably make a better call, on what is your best course of action.

BTW, if you travel with another person that uses very little data, another option is to swap sim card when starting to run low on data.

Also consider a spare sim or port to another telco temporary if that telco has something that suits the country in question better. Eg, eight has 2GB for Japan, Zym/Zero1/Vivifi has $15 plans with 15GB for Japan. If you expect to need >10GB, port over might make sense.

BTW, if you are renewing multiple times within a trip, you might to stop and review what you are using data for.
I barely hit 3GB in a typical 2 weeks trip, that is when using the phone heavily for maps, translation and search.

Many mapping applications — including Google Maps and Apple Maps — let you download regional maps and set travel destinations over Wi-Fi before you depart from your home or hotel. This can make a huge difference in how much mobile data you consume, and in many cases you don’t even need any data connection to navigate if you’ve downloaded what you need. At the very least you can typically shut off mobile data after you’ve started navigating a route.

Shutting off or at least reducing mobile data use also helps conserve battery life.

Downloading of offline maps is very important to reduce data usage, and should be always done.

As for turn off mobile data, this is particularly useful for somewhere like Canada or Australia, sparsely populated with plenty of areas that are not well covered, and you are more likely to drive or at least the routes are pretty fixed.

For Japan, using public transport, I find it quite different. The best public transport routes often changes by the minute you depart, so having data on becomes important, and you are less likely to be in mobile coverage blind spot.

Maybe, but in such circumstances you can toggle mobile data on, get a route update (with possible rerouting), then toggle it back off. Also, I don't think Japan is the best such example. Japan's public transport services keep very good time. Germany might be a better example.
