Looking back the events, SH may really in a serious take-over talk with M1, that was why it was not very aggressive in capturing the market. But guess eventually the bid is really not enticing enough for M1, so it came out with Plan B, Eight. That was also when M1 was no longer quite keen on number game, that was when CL and Maxx Basic Plan $0 plans were to be no longer available. Meantime, Simba came in for the bid, that was why Maxx Basic Plan $0 was indirectly reinstated but CL $0 plan was just irreversible. The rest is history.

But just a guess of the whole saga, whatever really happened is anyone's guess. 😀
I forsee a change in top seat for Starhub soon..

Keeping close eye on low-cost market

Meanwhile, StarHub will also continue pursuing its strategy to attract the low-cost market.

Responding to queries at the briefing, StarHub chief of consumer business group Matt Williams said: “We continue to execute our multi-brand, multi-segment strategy, which means that we are aggressive with Eight.” Eight is a mobile virtual network operator that runs on StarHub’s network.

He added that Eight is a leader for people seeking lower prices, and StarHub will be looking to incorporate additional benefits such as increased roaming allowance.

Williams said that MyRepublic’s broadband will remain independent following the acquisition by StarHub, with Eapen adding that the broadband segment is an “attractive segment”.

Williams noted that StarHub has plans to give MyRepublic customers access to watch English Premier League football.

This more aggressive stance means that StarHub’s earnings before interest, depreciation, taxes and amortisation outlook for the 2025 financial year have been revised down to between 88 and 92 per cent of the 2024 figures.

“This revision reflects a deliberate strategic decision to preserve competitiveness and defend market share, while continuing to invest in long-term growth levers,” said StarHub.

It looked like little tsunami on edmw thread, people there thought it was game over for Simba and it seems majority of people moved to eight.

But hengfully it wasn't the real case, it's simba that exceled. I think edmwers were hallucinating of tsunami that eight is generating. In the end it's just a small splash of water from Mudskippers.
Always believe the opposite of what edmwers say is my mantra when surfing edmw :s13:

that's good, the opposite of edmwers logic. Their logic, see alot people commenting on eight thread there, means everyone and whole Singapore is there.
The sample size of edmw is probably less than 2% of the entire SG population :s13:

Simba’s own network is **** to begin with. Then now they acquire M1 which is another piece of ****. If you add **** + ****, what do you get? Any every Simba fan is celebrating?

Yes, but you may be better off buying a separate eSIM (if your phone supports eSIMs) if and only if you need additional roaming data, when you need it. You may or may not like Eight’s incremental price or roaming partner(s). It’s a fresh competition for the increment.
