Once you tasted 5G. You will never want to go back.
Actually 4G is good enough.

The main reason why 5G is attractive is :

1) telco has the ability to split bandwidth between 5G & 4G, and obviously configure 4G with limited capacity to make 4G less attractive. It wasn't an issue with 4G, it is with allocated backend capacity that give 5G the appearance that it is much better. There are certainly some situation where 5G do perform much better, but in most case it is the configuration that made the difference.

2) with both 4G & 5G you have more bands that you can use, instead of being limited to only 4G bands.
In some case that can make a big difference.

For a lot of people (including those who have 4G-only devices), absolutely.

It’s not a question of whether 5G offers any technical improvements. It does, to some degree. It’s a question of value, of whether you’re willing to pay anything extra for 5G (and how much extra). Many people don’t currently feel 5G is worth anything extra. And that’s fine!

Now 5G phones are cheap. If 5G is free, I see there are no reasons not to use it. But it's up to the users whether they want to move to 5G.

Cheap is not zero, and many people like the phones they have.

Most people agree that “cheap” is not a fair description of new iPhones. The non-5G iPhone 11 models just received iOS 26 last month — the current release of iOS. Apple has released security updates recently (September 15, 2025) for iPhone models all the way back to the iPhone 6s (introduced in September, 2015). Lots of people have iPhone 11 and prior models, are delighted with them (or at least content), and cannot benefit even slightly from 5G service because their iPhones don't support 5G at all. There's nothing wrong with any of that! Good for them.

waiting long long la
if $10 5g maybe 🤔 More ppls ni harm to try

since I doubted they're will have 5g SA

but m1 maxx is 5g SA I suppose
Maxx is 5G SA, so there is no reason why 8 can't do 5G SA at $10.
5G SA for $14.80 plan seems high to me, 5G SA for $11.80 plan would be appropriate, but not as competitive as Maxx.
if $8 gets it, that would be really great.

5G SA for $14.80 plan, I might as well stick to an MNO.

Remember they had no plans for 5G before? Not that they can't do it, it's whether they plan to do it. Maybe they need better planners... :s13:

Maybe, but the competitive comparison is not that simple. M1 Maxx's international roaming is considerably weaker than Eight's (many fewer countries, no voice service). Even M1's VoWifi seems blocked overseas. And M1's 4G network in Singapore is probably not as good as StarHub's 4G network. (5G is not really a substitute for 4G. 5G augments 4G, if that.) Also, Maxx doesn't seem to offer top up promotions (unlike Eight). And Maxx doesn't offer a $5 senior plan.

For roaming usage my opinion is simba > eight >> maxx, but depends on requirement, it might be good enough.
As for VoWifi overseas, eight seems blocked for me as well, Simba does works well.

For the discussion for 5G, senior plan probably doesn't come into play, and Starhub/M1's 5G SA does appears to somewhat lack behind Singtel, hence like what you say in that case 4G coverage is thus important.

For promotion/perks wise, Maxx certainly don't have it but their advantage is the base plan, which works out better depends on how you use it.

Not sure for 8 mobile 5G. For zym 5G plan, i noticed as battery drain faster. I set back to 4G as cannot last for whole day
I think it's dependant on the phone model and network coverage.

Last Sat my family went out around 11am to Gardens by the Bay, Vivocity, etc. Only went back home at 9 plus pm.

Before went out, my wife's iphone 15 pro max was 70% battery (using m1 Maxx 5G - 5G On). When back home, the phone still have 30% battery. She was surfing facebook and tiktok videos while the kids were playing during the day.

IIRC they won't do partial deductions from different sources. If you don't want your $3 to sit there forever, top up the wallet.

I've such a situation coming up soon.

Currently, payment of Eight's subscription fee is via CC linked to the account.

Any idea when overseas, after using up the allocated 2GB international, will the roaming stop or will it carry-on and charge to my CC. No credit in Eight's wallet.
