Can I still downgrade back after a few months later?
You can downgrade anytime, but it will be queue at the end of the existing queue.
Unless you do something crazy like buying multiple same level plan, that means after the end of the current plan.
Personally I do not auto recharge, but buy whatever plan I need when the existing plan expires, but that is just me.

Does anyone know how roaming calls are charged?
If I’m overseas (e.g. in Vietnam) and need to call a Singapore number, will it use the 288 IDD minutes, or will it be charged separately?

previously used another telco and had to make sg calls while overseas and got charged absurd roaming rates :(

My eight mobile number has lapse for 1 month. If I top up and renew now, will it start from today or I will be back paying for the last month?

There was a detailed discussion on this thread previously, there is a few buckets & it is deducted from those.

Something like (based on ignore's photo):
Roaming calls to home
Roaming inbound calls allocation
Calls to roaming country local numbers

You won't be charged pay per use for sure.

eight allows number to lapse?? like prepaid?

how long the max it can lapse before number is terminated permanently?
There is a 60 days grace period, but enforcement appears to be a bit relax so you might get more than that, but of course you can't count on it.

Once you renew, it starts from today. This is unlike Simba, which starts from day of expiry.
I believe Maxx also starts from day of renewal.

Thanks for the reply!

Do you also happen to know how they charge for exceeding roaming calls?

I saw an older post regarding roaming data — if you exceed the limit, the internet just gets cut off, and you don’t get charged extra. I’m wondering if the same applies to roaming calls. If I exceed my VoLTE or IDD minutes while overseas, will the call just stop, or could it incur additional charges? I just want to avoid any bill shock.

Thanks!

Yes, same logic, cut off when used up.
Unless you have balance to deduct in your wallet.
