my zero1 still got 10gb left . And Singapore airlines giving 2gb promo for. So total 12gb for 5 days .

I’m thinking whether to buy shoppee $4 for another 10gb 5days or whether anyway to save cost through my current eight second line which is $8

mainly for navigation , payment use WeChat / Alipay and also to WhatsApp my family etc

I am existing
But if I upgrade , come back can downgrade?
For Eight Telecom line?

Upgrade takes effect immediately, while downgrade will start after the end of your upgraded plan.

So yes, you can downgrade anytime during the course of your upgraded plan.

How do I indicate to eight I want to downgrade? I’m thinking in this case I can upgrade for my coming trip (so this month it will upgrade) but then next month I want it back to $8

You have to take note that using SG Telco to roam means your connection is acutally like this
CHINA -> SG -> CHINA

Some people might be sensitive to this, some might not.
Some apps might be very sensitive to this, some might not.

Most china esim that you can purchase online are handled by China Mobile HK (CM HK) which allows you to "jump" china great wall.

Login website settle

Upgrade starts immediately, which means your current month will be voided and a new cycle will start which equates to losing $$ if your cycle isn't almost ending

Downgrade will have to wait for new cycle to finish

On your 2nd point .

assume my cycle is 28 Of every month . If I do now , means from last month 29 to today , they consider as I have used the 5g plan and from today till upcoming 28, it’s totally considered as a full 5g plan even though I been using just 4g up until today , is that right ?

Working with some assumptions here, you can just fill in the dates on your own
Eight renew every 30 days
Assuming that your trip to china is 13 Feb 2026 - 22 Feb 2026
Assuming morning flight and land in china in afternoon

Assuming start of 4G plan - 6 Feb 2026
Start of new 4G cycle - Likely 8 Mar 2026

If you upgrade your plan, let say on 14 Feb 2026, as you wish to maximse the 2GB INTL roaming first

Start of 5G Plan (assuming 14.80 plan) - 14 Feb 2026
Start of new 5G cycle - Likely 16 Mar 2026

Under this case, you would have technically spend more than 14.80 SGD for your roaming as more than half of the 8 SGD plan has been "wasted". I would price this at a total cost of 19 SGD for your roaming data.

Then you comeback SG and opt for the downgrade assuming 1 day after your landed on 23 Feb 2026. Your downgrade will be queued

Start of new 4G plan - Likely 15 April 2026

You have to port out since eight dosen't do ownership transfer

  • Can I transfer the ownership of my mobile plan?
Currently we do not have transfer of ownership functionality. Please ask your friends and family to register new line with eight.

If not in a hurry can maybe try wait till vivifi or zym promo starts (etc.. those free days or something) as they support ownwership transfer, but just check with them first.

Vivifi
https://help.vivifi.me/hc/en-us/articles/23868967284889-Transfer-of-Ownership

Zym
https://zym.sg/faq/transfer-owner/

You don't have come back to EIGHT just to stay 2-3 SGD per month. If both vivifi or zym 4g plan works, just then stay there.
Not worth coming back if the places where the phone goes to have a better reception / signal staying with singtel.

If Vivifi 4G is okay, then there is another option to go with SingTel hi! 4G senior plan at S$5 per month.

SingTel hi! Postpaid 4G plans do not support Ownership Transfer so you cannot directly change to SingTel hi! 4G senior plan.

SingTel S$5 hi! Senior Monthly Plan

S$5.00/mth

Only for seniors age 60 or older

Comes with

400GB 4G (200GB Singapore + 200GB roaming data Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand)

300 local mins + 50 SMS

How do I downgrade my plan?

Downgrades take effect at the next renewal cycle.
  • Log in to your eight account > Biling > Your next plan on auto renew: change to a lower tiered plan
  • Or visit any eight retailer
Your current plan will continue until the end of its 30-day cycle, after which the downgraded plan will begin. All plans are non-reversible and non-refundable.

I am currently paying $8. I figure out what one of the member above said , if I were to upgrade to 5g, I may end up be paying more than $19.

shoppee china eSIM for 5 days with 10gb cost $4. I think $12.00 makes more economical sense since I have the eight $8 and just buy a china eSIM which has vpn , and they say quite good according to reviews

Glad you understood my post.
Unless you are as lucky as me and fly out 1-2 days before renewal, then the upgrade would be worth it. Else, just stick with those eSIM services.

china eSIM which has vpn
It's just roaming service provided by China Mobile Hong Kong or 3 Hong Kong or any of the existing china telco that has branch in Hong Kong. Not entirely true that it is a "VPN"
