For those who want to go with eight 5G (eg: for better speed or for roaming benefits), this 12 months 5G Lucky eight plan at S$128 is actually not that bad.
I agree. But for those like me who had top up a bit during one for one promo and already at 5G. The 5G is technically at 50% off for the coming year. One year plan cannot use main credits so too bad.

So if I port in before 15 March, I'll be charged $8 for 88 days, for using their 5G plan.

"Reverts to $14.80/mth after 3 months."

That would mean I can downgrade to $8 plan after the 2nd month's billing, then I'll be on $8 plan after the 88 days?

Is my understanding correct? :o

You will be charged $8 per month for 3 months with free 5g data plan.

After these 3 months, you will be charged $14.8 per month to retain the 5g plan.

I agree it is too bad that one year plan cannot use the main wallet balance.

Hope eight can change this policy soon.

If I top up $128 for the 1 year plan, it will be $10.66 per month? I saw on the website, it says will revert to $14.80 after 3 months too. Means what ah?

They are two different methods of plan purchase. $128 is buying plan directly and not via wallet, the credit given is in the form of 1 year period. The 3months $14.80 50% off is buying the plan via wallet.

Hilarious that Eight's "gift" to their existing customers is...to entice them to defer (for 1 year) the hefty wallet balances they amassed from previous top up promotions.🤨

I know it's morbid to point this out, but the fact is that some number of Eight customers will unfortunately die with wallet balances, sometimes very large balances. You cannot take an Eight wallet balance with you. Those balances expire when you do.😢 IMDA probably ought to step in and regulate that, for example to mandate a simple procedure for survivors to receive those mobile wallet balances in cash. And/or cap wallet balances.

I resonate. I end up having to decide if I want to eschew my wallet balance for something else. The joke to me is that Eight is doing it to their own customers, which doesn't say anything nice about them.

In the end, I decided to cut my losses...

Indeed, the rigidity in wallet system is frustrating but do bear in mind that it is because of this rigidity, it is able to offer great discount (eg 1-for-1) to the users. Remember prepaid plans even have buy $15 get $55 value package? If cash is allowed to be withdrawn, the telcos are giving out more money than they collected (however, transfer of ownership of the amount to another same plan type account should be allowed though but it is also unfair too as the effort to accumulate the amount was done by the original account and should not benefit another account). There is a reason why some telcos never adopt wallet system because they don't want to offer 1-for-1 kinda promo.
