i tested again today on celcomdigi (roaming). Speed seems to be back to normal.

I tested many times and this is the fresh use of roaming data for today to also test if there is any FUP daily before speed throttled. But I had done so many test so by right the data used should have been more than few GBs.

But after went out for breakfast and watch a few YouTube videos.

And did speed tests again, speed was again back to 5Mbps+- again

I even tested on the same roaming network which was Celcomdigi and at the spot.

from my personal tests, I can pretty much confirm my assumption that there is indeed speed cap but probably after certain FUP quota is used up maybe few GBs? Then the speed is throttled down to 5Mbps+-.

This is similar to the Lion telco users shared about their experiences as well.

think all the telcos and MVNOs have the similar agreement with bolehland telcos roaming partners on the FUP and how to throttle the speed.

It is ok to throttle the speed for FUP to prevent the network from getting congested. But it isn't ok if the speed allocated is slow to the extent that webpage doesn't get loaded despite trying on all the 3 roaming partners.

Theoretically, 5Mbps should not be resulting in webpage not loading, afterall, 5Mbps is good enough for 1080p video streaming. Could it be other factors contributing to it that is overlooked?

I don't think so. Both other friend and my eight line faced the same problem. I played with the settings and eventually I have to set to LTE for some low speed data. But the webpage stop loading again the next day. It is kinda hit and miss thingy.

When webpage failed to load, I perform speed test and it was always searching for server. When this happened, vivifi has no problem at all.

Eight has "fake" roaming, it is suitable for Whatsapp texting, or iMessage only.

If you try to stream, it is super slow. If you try to send / receive a Whatsapp video, it is taking a long time to load. Websites will take a long time to load

"Real" roaming is when you use Singtel's postpaid like 5G enhanced plan, those types of lines will give you normal speeds. Speeds of up 700Mbps can be had....

So, the question is 900GB of extremely slow speed or 50GB of high speed

I am a cheapskate, so I will stick to the cheap plan and rely on wifi for any "real" internet usage

If the speed test could not even be loaded again, then it is not the capped 5Mbps problem, it has to do with priority network given to that telco. Guess when there are too many users, it was given last to be allocated with data connection hence the loading problem.

Impressive ‘on paper’ data quota. 🤪

Maybe you want to compare with the following. :ROFLMAO:

In the end, such high local data (1.4TB in this case) are not that useful (except for those use it as the replacement for Fibre Internet).

The local talk time and SMS rollover are super high and I do not know who can really finish using the quota.

But the roaming data rollover can be really useful for those travel more often.

No issue with recurring auto payment via credit card. Nothing to worry about data! (y)
