If fixing it can last 5 more years without other problems creeping up, then I guess it's ok. ~1k per year or $80 a month. The problem is usually more problems will crop up as the car ages.
ok great advise there! thanks!

One of the bro stated this:
Anyway this is the information you need.

https://www.onemotoring.com.sg/cont...ification_guide/modification_allowed_lta.html

Engines

(e.g. replacement of old or irreparable engine to a new or reconditioned engine.)

LTA allows changing of engines provided that it is of the same type as the original one. Therefore, LTA would require the following to be submitted for evaluation:

New or reconditioned engines
a) Invoice or bill of sales from the supplier of the replacement engine.
b) Certification from vehicle manufacturer or the local sole agent stating that the replacement is of the same type as the original one.

Swapping of engines
a) Swapping of engines between two registered vehicles is allowed, provided that both engines are of the same type and engine capacity.
b) After the swap, one of the vehicles must be scrapped immediately while the other must be produced for inspection at LTA.

Nevertheless still call or go LTA to ask personally how to get it done as it maybe case to case basis which we never know.

it's the O2 sensor, it detects abnomalities could be dirtied sensor just some cleaning will do, but then mechanics whom wanna earn money will always use the scare tactic knowing your fear of breakdown halfway. In this case this will not cause your vehicle to lose control or get into an accident, fuel consumption higher jiu higher lor, I lived with it for a good 2yrs till scrap

They will ask you to replace as they can use the same part to another car after cleaning it up.

Bring it back to VW for a quote. Sounds like a cracked piston to me. See if can negotiate for a goodwill discount. It's not something uncommon to hear of for a 1.4TSI.
