i got letter from LTA to install the new OBU and they "threaten" that installation is free now but next time i will need to pay for installation.
Crush it up, go LTA office, throw it in the bin.

Want then install, don't want don't install ... nothing we can do.

Can we choose to pay $5 flat fee daily like foreign vehicles and don't install this OBU?

Who needs to install the new OBU?

It shall be mandatory for all Singapore-registered vehicles to install the new OBU by the end of the OBU installation exercise, except the following:

  • Singapore-registered vehicles that are not allowed to travel on mainland public roads such as tractors, locomotives, construction equipment.
  • Vehicles on Restricted Use Scheme such as airport vehicles, port vehicles, Pulau Ubin vehicles, vehicles used in offshore islands only, vehicles on laid-up status, and vehicles under the Keeping Scheme.
  • Non-mechanically propelled vehicles such as trailers
  • Classic/Vintage vehicles as they are more sparingly used and subject to usage restrictions. However, owners will have the option to install a free OBU if they prefer, subject to technical feasibility assessment by the workshop. Further details will be provided at a later date.

I just got my new car with this OBU. It has provided more info, like school zone, bus lane, Police camera nearby, etc. While on expressway, also show the time to get to places like the one show on the sign board. Can turn off charging if given complimentary parking ticket, w/o taking out your cash card. Really better.

While skeptical, it's actually ok device.

Just sharing. I fixed the OBU but DID NOT opt for the display unit.

I paired two APPS with the OBU. Breeze navigation app and ERP 2.0

Pairing - a bit self for me cos after registering the handphone with LTA, I couldn’t pair my phone with the APPS. Finally I looked at the FAQ. Must wait 45 minutes after registering with LTA then can pair

So it’s paired

BREEZE APP
I realise I can’t make the map dark so it’s not so useful. The app itself is useful when you are planning a trip and want to avoid ERP but that’s about it. Only additional info is the Cashcard value

ERP 2.0
I tried it. But it only shows a clock and the cashcard value. It will notify you if you are approaching a school zone, silver zone but I think it’s distracting. So I don’t use it now.

What I do is now log my Breeze app to the OBU before I start the car just to see the cashcard value then go straight to Apple Maps 😂. Yea, Apple Maps won’t show cashcard value but unless you are going through many erp gantries, you don’t need to see it real time. At most, before you park the car, just switch from Apple map to Breeze on the head unit to get the latest Cashcard value

With the head unit and app, you can’t deactivate the cash card but it’s easy to just reach over and pull out the card. You don’t need to pull it out all the way anyway so no issue putting it back in after crossing a parking gantry

Took about 4 hours to fix cos apparently the workers stopped for a while for lunch first
