32gb quite alot :o:o

u will find u will run short of memory when u try to do more. 16gb only allows me to run hrizon workspace with horizon view that is the max. that box of mine is now an EUC box for me.

I have 2 other boxes runnning 32GB to run vCloud stuff and other solutions as well.

I am thinking of changing my AMD 1100T to FX8350.

Asking for opinion

- Brand New 8350FX + ASrock 990FX Extreme 3 ($267.50)
- 4X 8GB Kingston ($215)
- Power supply (any good+cheap recommendation?)
- Graphic card ( any good+cheap recommendation for 24/7 running? )
- Intel Network card ($10)

I'll get a cheap casing about 40 bucks type with lotsa of 120mm fans.

There should not be any change similar to ESXi 5.0 and 5.1.
nope...there is quite abit of changes if you are using vCenter.....

The SingleSignOn has been modified so now there's only 1 database needed if you are running multiple vCenters in linked mode.

Also, for all 5.5 products, the vsphere client (and web client) no longer works for Windows XP and 2003 and requires at least vista/2008 level to connect to....

if someone really upgrade their vm hardware level to 10...just shut down your vmware, navigate to that vm's datastore and download the .vmx file. Edit the hardware level using a text editor and re-upload it, overwriting the original.

You are right for vSphere. But I am just answering based on the nesting ESXi. Not taking vSphere as a whole.

vSphere 5.1 should be skipped if you are not on move to 5.5 directly.

Just note doing so is a non-supported method. If you are doing this on production you risk losing support request doing so. In real scenario, you may use VMware standalone converter or any other 3rd converter tools.
