Fast charging is something which isn't really something new to iPhones.The fast charging iPhone 8/X mentioned just refers to USB-C PD Support

iPhones could always charge quite rapidly if you used a higher ampere charger. As you can see from the chart above, any USB charger or power bank which delivers ~2.4A would do the trick
If you use a 2A or 2.4A charger to charge the older iPhones, it's definitely charging faster. But that's not "Fast Charging".

The phone charges at an accelerated rate when battery life is below a certain level. When it reaches that certain level, the normal rate of charging then resumes. It's a life-safer when your battery is low, and you only have a few minutes to charge your phone. This is not the same as using a 2A or 2.4A charger to charge up the phone.

I'm just glad that at least this time round, Apple isn't using some proprietary Fast Charging standard! Finally Apple is using an industry standard, just like how it is using the Qi wireless charging standard too. Very unlike the Apple of the past, but it's certainly something I can't complain about.

Actually all phones do that. As you can see from the charging curves, it is a sharp rise before it tapers off.

When comparing to Android phones, at the 20min mark, there isn't a significant differences to be honest.

Erm.. this chart is a comparison of various phones that have Fast Charging in place. The purpose of this test was to see if there's a difference in the various Fast Charging standards.

The iPhone without Fast Charging isnt one of those being tested here. So this chart doesn't really help one to see easily what the effect of Fast Charging is.

The iPhone without Fast Charging isnt one of those being tested here. So this chart isnt useful to ascertain what the effect of Fast Charging is.

The x-axis and the y-axis are the same (mins vs percentage). How much more do you need to compare?

That chart you quoted shows exactly what I wrote. The chart you quoted also does NOT show phones WITHOUT Fast Charging. So when you said that the above behaviour applies to "all phones", citing the chart as a support, you can't be any more wrong than that.

I think you fail to understand that for Quick Charging to occur, both the phone and the charger needs to support it. For the iPhone 8, it utilises USB-C Protocol which is only on 29W or greater chargers. The 10/12 W iPad chargers which do not support USB-C PD, as shown in the iPhone graph, exhibit similar rapid charging behaviour despite not having any mention of quick/rapid/fast charging

The reality of the situation, iPhones for a long have always supported rapid charging with high amphere USB charging. They just pointed out Quick Charging to indicate USB-C PD support which a little faster

I'm fully aware that a compatible charger has to be used. I finally understand now that in your subsequent posts, you were actually referring to the chart on iPhone 8 and not the ones showing only the Android phones. My bad on that.

Thanks to your clarification now, I see where you are coming from. Strangely though, the test by BGR shows different results from that conducted by AppleInsider -

Both AppleInsider and BGR purport to be testing on an iPhone 8 Plus. But strangely enough, the test by AppleInsider shows that when you are not using a USB-PD charger, the charging rate is pretty much linear. This contradicts BGR's chart. And this is exactly what I've been trying to put across - charging faster using a higher AMP charger, in and of itself, does not necessarily equate to Fast Charging.

Add one variable you haven’t considered; the Note 8’s battery is bigger than the iPhone. Thou it is possible after last year’s explosive launch, Samsung could be more conservative on charging speeds

yes sir, i mentioned it in the first line :)

then again, the charging time may not be much of a factor if the phone itself has better battery efficiency and better SOT etc..

I took a closer look at AppleInsider’s chart; Comparing the BGR and AI charts by just looking at the 15 min charge point between the USB-C and 12W charger gets similar results. So I think the slope of the graph looks different due to the scaling of the x axis.

Hence both articles appear to point to similar charging rate.

Thou I should mention that the AI chart has no axis marks so it’s jist me eye balling the chart. The article does seem to point to another conclusion

I happened to have the 87W charger using Apple usb C to lighting to charge my iPad and iPhone 6s which all can achieve 50% in about 30mins. Also bought the anker 5+ port with usb C , useful charger .

I have the Anker 5+ too. Thou I recently upgraded to the one with USB-C PD. When it arrived, I was disappointed that it was so huge compared to the prior one

If u intend to save lots of vids, snap lots of pics or install many games then 256 lor. For ave user 64 will do.
