Usually they are ok with big notes. But I have met vendors who will take the 1k note and look closely for a sec.

They are making sure that your notes are not fake as there are alot fake notes in the market. NT2K notes has been there for quite sometime already and normally i will use it at small seven.

$1.5k seems kinda a lot. If you intend to shop a lot at non-luxury shops probably 1K to 1.2K. I changed sgd800 and have ntd 6000 for 3 more days' use.

Worst come to worst, can use cards for purchases in the malls. Always prefer citibank cc or ocbc debit card than posb. Few days ago ocbc charged my purchases at fx rate of 22.5 compared to 22.73 rate i got from taoyuan airport. I am fine with 22.5 using debit card for bigger purchases instead of using cash.

Ntd 1k works fine for many shops and stalls including ningxia night market.
