Hi guys, this month after my data reset on the 8th, up to now my data usage is only around just over 1GB and with reference to the MySingtel app, still shows 1.0GB. Usually after that, I use *3282 for a more accurate data monitoring in 'MB' so can adjust accordingly with the Data Usage app i'm using which is a very good data monitoring app.

But ironically from last nite since, *3282 has been clocking 500MB of usage to now but i've only used around 40MB and yes, MySingtel still shows 1.0GB and *3282 is now showing in 'GB' and in units of 100MB, so irate, i called 1688 twice and one tells me it is 1.5GB of usage and the app i'm using might be inaccurate or maybe background apps are running and the other tells me app like whatsapp even closed will consume data in which I think they're trying to cover up or they really cannot answer. The thing is, background apps refresh is always disabled and my cellular usage which I always reset on the first day of the month shows that my whatsapp only used 8MB to now, so it's impossible. Previously all are ok.

Anyway just awareness for all Singtel users to check their current data usage to date as I really don't know where the other 460MB of extra data comes from. If Singtel were to charge me for the extra data usage for my next bill, will just have to lodge a complaint.

have you checked under Cellular to see which app is taking up so much data?

Checked all and most are under 1MB got a couple are below 80MB but that's since my cellular reset on 01 Feb, not from the official data reset which is on the 8th.

Have you check all your settings, especially those "Location Service" that you don't need to be disabled and also disable those updates/backup using Celluar Data?

My location service is always off and I also never changed any settings.

Off-hand, I can only think of iTunes auto updates/downloads using cellular data, cos these usually runs in background.

Those are turned off too. It's just so strange cos it just happened like that, and now clocked 700MB when I only used around 60+MB today.

restore iOS.. and monitor again..

if it happen again. throw away iPhone and get an Android.

At least it tells you which applications is using up the traffic.

Safari Tabs "cloud"-syncing?
Using the phone as a HotSpot?
iCloud backup in general?

iCloud is all off. I've all the while been using the phone as a personal hot spot but never heavy usage and always monitored accurately. Ever since *3282 was 'modified' by Singtel, all went haywire. Now clocked 800MB while I only used 70+MB for a total of 1.8GB, where the MySingtel app is still at 1.0GB.

use iOS7. it will tell you which app or system service that is using too much data.

facebook photo sync might be enabled.
also, data tracking app is not accurate. iOS7 should be ok

But iOS 7 doesn't really give you the total used, just a breakdown only. I do not have Facebook so no probs on that. My data tracking app is accurate as I monitor and adjusted it everyday in accordance to singtel's data. But now 2 conflicting datas from singtel themselves so cannot track the correct data until the next billing cycle.

this seem related to another thread
http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/iphone-chat-room-240/crazy-surge-singtel-data-usage-4206210-8.html

it is rounded to 50KB block.
so sometimes it is better to have a continuous data connection (e.g skype).. i might be wrong :)

Yeah I've came across that thread though. But anyway, *3282 has already corrected my usage (definitely system error) and now displays in GB to 2 decimal places in blocks of 10MB, still not as accurate as previously before the change.
