Rather than clog up the proposal ring thread with this, I recently bought a fake diamond engagement ring online for my fiance as I was a bit worried she might lose the real one (which cost me a few months pay at the time) either through carelessness, or just exposing us to more risk when we travel to JB/Thailand/etc. After much researching online, I found a few which looked extremely similar to the Chanel setting and size, and ordered one from Overstock. It's amazing how good it looks in real life and unless doing side by side comparison, it really does look real! Takes about 2.5 weeks to arrive, and doesn't come in a jewelry box but it comes in a simple white box.

Anyway, thought I'd share this with bros in case you were wondering how to get a second ring to be safer (or if you're worried). The missus had her doubts before she saw it but now she's happy to wear the fake sometimes too. I wish I knew if it was waterproof though but I suspect the material probably isn't good to have under water.

I also bought a fake diamond from taobao to wear! Thought it would be a waste of money to get a real diamond at 1.5 carat so got it from taobao at $60!

The quality of fake diamond proposal rings has really improved

I purchased a fake diamond engagement ring online from Luxuria Diamonds.

Their website is luxuria dot diamonds

They offer free shipping to Singapore. The quality of the ring was amazing and beside my wife's real D colour VVS grade diamond the fake diamond ring from Luxuria was more brilliant. They use the highest grade cubic zirconia.

Anyway my wife uses it as a travel ring - so we can't lose the real one when on holiday but it looks so much like the real deal it would also make a great proposal ring.

CZ dulls within months, so it won’t last.

Did the sales from Orro tell you it is a lab-grown diamond? Orro is not lab-grown diamonds. They are stimulants, the crystal composition is different from a diamond.

I checked and Orro does not sell lab-grown diamonds. They sell cubic zirconia which dulls after a pretty short time.

For my engagement ring, I actually got a Moissanite platinum ring. It's not known in Singapore but it's very popular in the US.

Moissanite is durable and doesn't dull. I got one that is cut like a diamond with hearts and arrows, colour DEF. It is slightly shinier than a diamond.

Maybe something you all can consider moissanite as an alternative to diamond?

It's actually really easy to spot the differences of CZ vs diamond and Moissanite vs diamond.

Both CZ and Moissanite has alot more fire/rainbow flashes than a real diamond, they sparkle with a diff look...also CZ looks very glassy and dull pretty fast (look the most fake out of all).

Hence if you're buying CZ or Moissanite, please don't try to pull it off as a diamond, chances are, your friends whom has seen real diamond for quite a number of times will be able to tell that it's not diamond, don't end up making a shame of yourself and your wife just because of this.

You are right about Moissanite having more fire than a diamond. But from my experience, most people are unable to tell the difference between a diamond and a moissanite (if it is made well with the same cut as a diamond). I have a 2.21 carat diamond and a 2 carat-equivalent moissanite, and they're really not that different, except for the fire (moissanite flashes rainbow and diamond is more like an icy flash).

But I think the most important thing here is that the reason why you get a moissanite (or even CZ or white sapphire) shouldn't be to pass it off as a diamond.

Personally, while I like the look of diamonds, I cannot swallow the exorbitant prices. So I think moissanite is a great alternative.

Lab grown vs CZ prices little diff iirc. Lab grown is real so ppl going for CZ or mossanite is for what reason?
