You are right about Moissanite having more fire than a diamond. But from my experience, most people are unable to tell the difference between a diamond and a moissanite (if it is made well with the same cut as a diamond). I have a 2.21 carat diamond and a 2 carat-equivalent moissanite, and they're really not that different, except for the fire (moissanite flashes rainbow and diamond is more like an icy flash).

But I think the most important thing here is that the reason why you get a moissanite (or even CZ or white sapphire) shouldn't be to pass it off as a diamond.

Personally, while I like the look of diamonds, I cannot swallow the exorbitant prices. So I think moissanite is a great alternative.

You’re right, Honesty is the key, I’ve known some guys or girls going for big sized non-diamond but wants to pass it off as diamond just to show off to their friends, that’s really a very bad idea

Lab grown vs CZ prices little diff iirc. Lab grown is real so ppl going for CZ or mossanite is for what reason?

Some people purely like bling but doesn’t wish to pay the highly marked price of diamond - which is totally fine.

Edit: lab grown diamond prices are far from CZ. CZ cost like 100-200 per carat but lab grown cost around 5k+. If the lab grown diamond u seen are close to CZ prices then it’s not a real lab grown diamond, probably some CZ modified stone.

Only thing that’s really wrong is saying that it’s something that it’s not.

Especially nowadays with everyone massive posting their life and gifts onto social media, it somehow indirectly pressured some people to get big stones even if it’s fake in order not to feel lose out

CZ is cheap but moissanite cost more. Lab grown diamonds is usd$800 per ct vs usd$400 for moissanite. Sgd$5k for lab grown where is your source? Carrot? De Deers sell fake?

Ah 5k was last year prices before de beers gets involved.

Anyway I’ve did some research, the lab grown by them sucks...they are of like ‘VG’ cut grade, bascially junk cut with lots of light leakages, I was still considering it for pendant or earrings after seeing the prices, but am certain now that I wouldn’t want it since the cut sucks. Maybe next time when they improved their cut and if they stay cheap.

Hopefully they does improve the cut quality, I suspect they purposely make it Low cut quality to state the differences between mined and lab grown

I paid US$470 per carat for my forever one moissanite by Charles and Colvard. Even moissanites have different standards.

Lightbox's main purpose, I believe, is to crash the lab-grown diamond market so they can differentiate their mined diamonds and sell them at a premium price.

@patryn33 My purpose in getting a moissanite instead of a lab-grown diamond is still the cost. Also, the cheaper lab-grown diamonds (e.g. from Lightbox) are not of good quality or are unproven as of now. That may change in the future.

When I sourced for good quality lab-grown diamonds, their price was 70% of mined diamonds which was ridiculous to me. A good quality (cut, colour, clarity) 2-carat lab-grown diamond was around S$25-30k.

Considering my conflict-free 2-carat moissanite platinum ring cost me around S$2100. The difference is still significant.

I understand the anger if people are passing off their moissanites/CZ as real diamonds. That's akin to people using fake branded bags and passing them off as real. But if someone is open about their rings being moissanites, I don't see the problem with it.

I don't view moissanites as fake diamonds. I view them as a gemstone of their own.

CZ dulls within months, so it won’t last.

I had read that - but it wasn't true at all in our case.

As mentioned above I bought a fake diamond ring from Luxuria Diamonds Singapore. It was CZ. I bought it as a travel ring because I was afraid my wife would lose the real one on a trip we were planning.

That was over 6 months ago and the ring still looks amazing beside my wife's real D colour VVS one.

The CZ has not dulled at all, but it was a high grade CZ, even with a hearts and arrows cut.

We do have another CZ ring at home which is nearly 4 years old and after following the manufacturers care instructions that looks like new too.

The purpose of purchase was NOT to pass them off as real diamond but avoid the possibility of loss during travel and also avoid the insurance premiums.

My wife liked the CZ ring so much she wears it to the office - something I would not have predicted at time of purchase. The real one now rarely leaves the safe.

Hello. May I know whether you bought the stones separately and found someone to set it? Or did you go to a shop in Singapore. Can you share the process please? Thank you

I can’t say for all CZ. But Orro CZ will tarnish. The sales accidentally let it slipped that it will tarnish and won’t be as shiny because I inform them I don’t like the fire.
I told them it looked over the top and unnatural. Their face just change. For some reason they keep insisting on their CZ is the same as diamond.

And if you did research on orro review, their “PLATINUM VERMEIL” are just platinum plated sterling sliver. No matter how they promote their “TM” method of plating, your ring will tarnish. If the band tarnish your CZ will incomparision looks dull. Another reason why CZ will most definitely tarnish is from polishing.
Diamond can polish because it’s hard. It won’t leave mark or scratches. CZ will. Thus, it get dull.

At the end of the day, if you want CZ.

- ORRO is not the place to go. It’s overpriced for a product that isn’t worth it. They use words like, It’s “comparable” to diamond. But it’s not. They use influencers to promote them by saying you can’t tell the difference from naked eyes, you can. They are very misleading and constantly tries to mislead consumer.

- Invest in a good band.
- Take good care of it, don’t treat it like diamond. It will scratch and become dull.
- Don’t wear it while washing dishes, doing laundry or handling chemical like bleach, floor cleaner or window cleaner.
- If you can remove it while washing hand or showering. It will extend its life.
- don’t polish it with harsh chemical, let professional do it if you can.
- there are no such thing as high quality diamond stimulant that change the world. All CZ are lab created and flawless because they are lab created. Chemical compounds are the same and they will still scratch.
- CZ can be very cheap. They can be cheap and flawless because lab grown. Look around, buy a cheaper CZ and get a good jeweller to set it for you. It’s more worth it than paying for a ORRO brand.

There might be more people who can give better insides, but this is what I have discovered from my experience.

ALL CZ will dull easily.

Now it’s a good time to consider lab grown diamond that de beer sells. Dirt cheap as they decided to rocket down lab grown diamond prices to once again show that real diamond should be the only one with high value haha.

However do note that their lab grown diamond does not have amazing cut, average at best.

Looks very cloudy and bad cutting.

It’s either angle or photo problem or you get ripped off badly..

Edit: checked them out, the rose cut aren’t meant to maximise blingness and the quality of Moissanite they use are pretty Low, it’s definitely overpriced...

Yup, rose cuts have less bling. I like the look of that as compared to a brilliant round. Might be my photo that made it look bad, looks really nice rl, I love it. Whether its overpriced for this particular stone, that I'm not sure, guess that's one of the risks in buying things online.

I think the owner is trying to make it ‘designer’ brand, such types usually aren’t exactly worth it in the sense of cost but catered for people whom like their designs lor. It’s definitely not your photo problem bah, I’ve double checked their site, the rock itself aren’t high quality as I’ve seen a lot better ones.

I agree.

Moissanite IS a gemstone. Some call it a 'space diamond'.

Unlike natural diamond, natural moissanite is extremely rare, thus moissanite used in rings is lab-created.

The space to watch though is lab-created / synthetic diamond. Some are predicting as manufacturing technology becomes more efficient and scale of production increases prices will fall to about 10% of natural diamond - which is approx. where moissanite pricing presently falls.

Been a while since I posted but the replica from the original post is still with us, and still looks as good as a real one unless you're staring at the two side by side.
