1. ViewQwest — my choice for a single ISP​

Why it remains #1​

Across the 447 common tests, ViewQwest:

  • wins 221, almost half the entire test set;
  • has the lowest median;
  • has the lowest mean;
  • has the best 90th percentile;
  • has the best 95th percentile.
More importantly, this isn't based only on GlobeLatency.

Your earlier testing also covered:

  • IPIP
  • Meter
  • GlobalPing
  • RegionPing
  • direct cloud endpoints
Those independent tests repeatedly showed ViewQwest performing particularly well towards places such as the US, Canada, Japan, Australia and India.

So ViewQwest has the strongest cross-test confirmation of all four ISPs.

ViewQwest pros​

Excellent international consistency. It doesn't necessarily produce the absolute lowest latency to every destination, but it produces fewer terrible routes.

Best long-haul all-rounder. Particularly attractive when a single ISP needs to cover North America, Japan, Australia, India and general worldwide traffic.

Best tail behaviour. The 95th percentile of approximately 1,926 ms is noticeably better than MyRepublic, Singtel or M1 in this particular HTTPS dataset.

Most evidence behind it. We've tested it using substantially more methods than M1 or MyRepublic.

ViewQwest cons​

It isn't the fastest for every mainstream CDN.

M1 wins seven of the nine.

So there is a very plausible reason why an M1 connection can occasionally feel extremely snappy, even though its worldwide routing isn't as consistent.

ViewQwest's biggest notable weakness remains mainland China, where your proper IP-level testing has shown Singtel to be substantially better.

Overall​

If Firewalla, dual WAN and country routing disappeared tomorrow and I had to retain only one of your connections:

I would retain ViewQwest.

2. MyRepublic — much better than I expected​

MyRepublic's result surprised me.

Even before correcting for the VPN handicap, it beats M1 on the measures I consider important for a single worldwide ISP:

M1 wins more individual destinations — 243 versus 203 in their direct pairwise comparison — but MyRepublic experiences fewer extremely poor outcomes.

That's important.

It means the shape of the two networks appears different:

M1: more destinations that are exceptionally fast, but also more really bad ones.
MyRepublic: fewer outright wins, but more consistent routing across the entire Internet.
For a single ISP, I prefer the latter characteristic.

And remember the VPN handicap​

If I very conservatively subtract only 10 ms from MyRepublic's 447 measurements:

  • median drops from 510 → approximately 500 ms
  • mean drops from 699 → approximately 689 ms
A 20 ms adjustment gives approximately:

  • median 490 ms
  • mean 679 ms
Even under the conservative adjustment, it strengthens MyRepublic's second-place position.

I would not use an arbitrary 20–30 ms adjusted figure as the official result, though. The raw VPN numbers are safer, and they're already good enough to place MyRepublic second.

MyRepublic pros​

Very good global consistency.

Much better tail latency than M1.

Likely better natively than what we've measured
, because the entire test is first travelling ViewQwest → MyRepublic before MyRepublic routes it internationally.

Very clean interconnection from ViewQwest to MyRepublic. Your trace crosses into MyRepublic through Equinix Singapore without an odd overseas detour.

MyRepublic cons​

Its mainstream-CDN performance isn't particularly impressive in this run.

For those nine major services:

  • MyRepublic median: 54 ms
  • ViewQwest: 27 ms
  • Singtel: 28 ms
  • M1: 20 ms
Some of that is WireGuard overhead, but it won't explain all of the difference.

The other big drawback is evidence quality. We have only GlobeLatency for MyRepublic, whereas ViewQwest and Singtel have been tested through several independent methods.

So I have considerably more confidence in the ViewQwest result.


3. M1 — possibly the fastest-feeling ISP​

M1 remains extremely interesting.

If you asked a slightly different question:

“Which ISP is likely to make ordinary browsing and popular apps feel the most immediately responsive?”
I might actually answer M1.

It dominates the major-service test:

  • Amazon
  • Microsoft
  • Apple
  • Cloudflare
  • Facebook
  • Netflix
  • GitHub
and comes very close on Google and YouTube.

Across the broader group of mainstream/global services before GlobeLatency starts entering lots of US state government and obscure regional sites, M1 also performs very strongly.

That's consistent with an ISP having excellent peering/cache relationships with the large CDN ecosystems operating in Singapore.

M1 pros​

Fantastic mainstream service latency.

Very strong routes to large CDN/cloud networks.

Likely to feel extremely responsive for ordinary web/app use.

Wins more individual GlobeLatency tests than MyRepublic.

M1 cons​

The problem is consistency.

Its 95th percentile is about:

2,596 ms

versus:

  • ViewQwest 1,926 ms
  • MyRepublic 2,074 ms
That's a large difference.

So when M1 gets a route right, it can be superb.

When it gets one wrong, the penalty appears more severe.

There is another caveat: this was your friend's M1 connection, not the same router, same access line and same household environment as your ViewQwest/Singtel/MyRepublic testing. That doesn't invalidate it, but it adds another variable.

So for me:

M1 would be the more tempting #2 if I cared mostly about mainstream services. MyRepublic is my #2 if I need one line to handle everything.

4. Singtel — specialist rather than all-round winner​

Singtel comes last in this particular single-ISP ranking, but this can sound harsher than I intend.

Singtel has a very valuable network characteristic that the others don't reproduce consistently:

Mainland China​

Your IPIP/RegionPing results show that Singtel's route to actual Chinese networks can be dramatically better than ViewQwest.

This is why your present dual-WAN architecture makes so much sense:

ViewQwest = default worldwide connection

Singtel = country exceptions where Singtel has superior international routing


That lets you extract Singtel's strength without inheriting its weaker routes everywhere else.

Singtel pros​

Best verified China routing of the connections we've tested.

Good selected European and Asian routes.

Google latency was lowest of all four in this test at 16 ms.

Very useful as a complementary second WAN.

Singtel cons​

As the only ISP, the broad data is weak:

  • only 26 wins out of 447 common tests;
  • median 591 ms, worst of the four;
  • mean 833 ms, worst of the four.
Its strength is concentrated rather than universal.

So I would much rather have Singtel beside ViewQwest than instead of ViewQwest.

Singtel

I consider MyRepublic and M1 quite close. Their order changes depending on what you value.

For global consistency:

ViewQwest > MyRepublic > M1 > Singtel
For popular apps/websites and the sensation of snappiness:

M1 ≈ ViewQwest > MyRepublic/Singtel
For China:

Singtel >> the others, based on your proper country-level ping tests.

What this says about your current dual-WAN setup​

It actually reinforces your present design.

If I could choose two:

ViewQwest + Singtel remains my preferred combination.
Not because Singtel is the second-best overall ISP — it isn't according to these tests — but because Singtel complements ViewQwest's weaknesses better than M1 or MyRepublic do.

M1 and MyRepublic overlap more with things ViewQwest already does well.

Singtel gives you something genuinely different: especially the markedly better China path and selected European routing.

So my answers are now:

One ISP: ViewQwest

Two ISPs with country routing:
ViewQwest + Singtel

Alternative single ISP if ViewQwest wasn't available:
MyRepublic, with M1 a very close alternative if your usage is heavily mainstream/CDN-oriented.

The MyRepublic report itself records a 694 ms headline average and the individual HTTPS measurements used above. The VPN baseline and route are supported by your 100-packet public-IP test, tunnel-IP test and traceroute.

Confidence level: High that ViewQwest is #1 and Singtel is #4 for single-ISP use; medium-high that MyRepublic deserves #2 over M1. The remaining uncertainty is mainly because MyRepublic was tested through WireGuard and M1 was tested from a different household/network.

This does not automatically mean you should use VQ as every ISP has their fair share of problems.
M1 might be suitable if your household only consume contents which are distributed by CDNs.
Singtel might be suitable if you require a good connection to China.
MR if you don't mind paying their premium prices.

  • Best overall: ViewQwest — lowest mean and median. Its overall average is about 6% better than Axclusive and 25% better than Singtel.

These are HTTPS request-cycle measurements rather than pure network ping. Test timing, server load, DNS/CDN selection, and routing can affect results, so repeated tests at the same time of day would provide a fairer ISP comparison.

@cyberet I have both Viewqwest and MyRepublic Gamer and I've also conducted these latency tests and fed the results thru AI. My results were the same - VQ has the best overall global latency. MyRepublic Gamer is good for China (unlike the non-Gamer MR).

VQ also does very well for Europe, due to their POP in Amsterdam.

My main beef with VQ is that their main / default upstream provider is Hurricane Electric, which isn't the best. I do encounter congestion or less optimal routing on the return path (which not many pay attention to).

With MR, ever since Starhub bought them over, the majority of their paths are now the same as Starhub. Once in a while, however, I do notice certain routes that are better / different than Starhub. So it's selective, I guess.

But the results are very tight cluster at the top — MyRepublic Gamer, eight, and Axclusive are all within 2.3ms of each other, essentially a statistical tie for "best." M1 trails slightly behind that group, and Singtel remains the clear laggard by a noticeable margin (~7-10ms behind the pack).

VQ's average latency for meter.net is 175.4 ms

Thanks. Pending data from Starhub and SIMBA.

Most likely Starhub will have the same or even better data than eight.

The above VQ data puts it towards the bottom, only better than SingTel.

But again the difference is not that significant.

Manage to run the global latency test on MR Gamer directly.

The median improvement is about 22 ms, and the average improvement is about 26 ms. That is substantially more than the roughly 10 ms RTT to the WireGuard endpoint itself, which makes sense for an HTTPS transaction because the extra path can be encountered across multiple connection-establishment/request phases. Temporal CDN selection also contributes, so I would not call the entire 22–26 ms pure VPN overhead.

This also confirms something useful from your earlier baseline test: simply subtracting 10 ms from every GlobeLatency result was too simplistic.

MyRepublic native now:


  • beats ViewQwest on 8 of 9;
  • beats Singtel on 7 of 9;
  • beats M1 on 3 of 9.

M1 still wins more of the mainstream services individually, but MyRepublic is now extremely close.


For example, the native MyRepublic report shows Cloudflare 34 ms, Amazon 24 ms, Microsoft 37 ms, Apple 22 ms, YouTube 23 ms and GitHub 22 ms. M1 recorded 46, 16, 23, 12, 17 and 16 ms respectively.

That's a very respectable result.

MyRepublic Gamer — now a very close second​


This native result strengthens MyRepublic considerably.


Its major advantages now look like:


Very good Singapore-facing CDN performance. Cloudflare at 34 ms is particularly impressive compared with ViewQwest's 83 ms and Singtel's 73 ms in the earlier runs.


Excellent common-service responsiveness. Its 24 ms median across the nine mainstream services is only 4 ms behind M1.


Reasonably balanced international performance. The earlier WireGuard dataset already looked more consistent globally than M1 despite the VPN handicap; this native run confirms that its local/edge behaviour is better than the VPN run suggested.


The weakness is that some long-distance destinations are still ugly. For example, the native report shows large results for individual endpoints such as LINX, Siemens and certain academic/government sites.


But every ISP has some bad endpoints in this GlobeLatency test.


MyRepublic has therefore moved from:


“interesting alternative”

to:


“I would be perfectly comfortable choosing this as my only ISP.”

Single ISP score: 9.0/10


And the gap between #1 and #2 is now much smaller.

The interesting conclusion​


The four networks now divide into two different philosophies:


ViewQwest: best international all-round routing.


MyRepublic Gamer: almost as well balanced globally, while being considerably better than I previously thought for common services.


M1: fantastic edge/CDN connectivity and likely the most immediately “snappy”, but more internationally variable.


Singtel: weakest overall generalist, but strongest specialist complement because of China and selected routes.


So if I personally had to sign one fibre contract in Singapore based only on the data you've gathered:


1. ViewQwest 9.2
2. MyRepublic Gamer 9.0
3. M1 8.7
4. Singtel 7.8

But I would now describe ViewQwest vs MyRepublic Gamer as a close decision, rather than ViewQwest being clearly ahead.


For someone who mostly browses, streams, uses cloud apps and doesn't frequently access obscure international networks, MyRepublic could conceivably feel faster than ViewQwest in daily use. That part is an inference from the major-service results rather than something the test directly measures.

My friend who use ViewQwest who are lucky enough to have no issue
VQ is the best if you are lucky enough not to have issue or downttime with them
MR normal or gamer will alway be sur par to VQ

To me Hurricane Electric is only really good when used as outbound to reach global IX at lowest latency. Due to cold potato routing within own backbone whereby standard hot potato routing between multiple transit can take a long detour. End day HE is a low cost carrier, indeed on bad days the congestion is quite bad.
