Not sure how some of you guys do it with being satisfied with $6k monthly income. Most of the banker peers I see and know gun for at least $200k to $300k+ and beyond per annum. Private Banking desk heads I know of make $500k+ per annum. Top guy gets over a million.

Have always figured that having more capital acts as both an opportunity net and a disaster buffer.
contentment is a bliss.

forever craving for more is greed and the person will never be happy...

Let's talk about median la..why you so elitist? :s13:

if everyone 200k-300k p.a, singapore no poor people liao la.

The bank is so huge, profit centre or cost centre? obviously those profit centre are performance based.

M12's context is bankers, not everyone. The guy flipping burgers along Wall Street earn minimum wage serving a customer that could easily be earning $200k USD basic.

Purpose of this thread is to discuss whether it is worth it to give up a comfortable salary and go outside and feed the sharks on mainstreet. hahaha

My apologies, didn't mean to sound elitist. I suppose it's a side effect of being in the industry and around wealthy clients.

Last two years (2013 and 2014) were very good for bank sales. Saw the average private banking level RM draw approximately $300k. Top desk heads easily over a million. Very unlikely they will ever venture out to run a business by themselves, but with partners definitely happening all the time.

In my experience this depends on the individual. Some are very driven to strive for more, some less. Don't need to envy one another as both sides have different problems.

not tcss la..

once you are comfortable with a spot, you feel bored and will want to find something else to be busy with. Especially when you see, hear friends becoming entrepreneurs and making it big.

The urge to leave corporate life is very strong but at the same time you are worried of the commitments you currently have.

Just sharing the move i made..

Good for you. I have contemplated leaving my sector for the last couple of years but decided to just hang in there until the inevitable retrenchment happens.

well my 6k a month is almost recession proof and it can only maintain or get higher.

What abt the 200k - 300k can sustain until 62 yo? Do they hv life. ? Can they tcss during work ? Can they leave work on time ? Im sure thats the price.

And what price ? Somemore 200k is just extra tat 60-70k a year more minus the taxes. And in that income range, so far, it gets harder n harder to work till 60. Imagine u get laid off at 40+, while i still rack in 100+ k (by 40 yo prob >150k).

Finally u compared top guy. Then compare the top guy in my own industry, which could be also neart 250-400k PA.

And well more capital.. that is provided u live in a HDB and drive a simple car and lead a simple life with a 1 m compensation. Will u ? I guess probably u change house n car, rack up more expenses and debts and 1 day, all it takes is 1 black swan day to give it all back.

You see, if you're making $300k+ and more per annum, you don't need to work till 62. If you're still working, it means you want to, not that you have to.

Even the mid tier guys make approximately $120k per annum.

Having more capital doesn't mean that you splurge on material objects. It can also mean more security for some people and ammunition for opportunities when they do come about.

It does sound like you're chewing on sour grapes and envious of others making more, decide that their circumstances aren't worth the effort.
