Feedback on PMP course centre

I find that headhunters may notice a PMP more, and possibly open more doors to interviews; some jobs specifically ask for a PMP.

But of course, it is not a guarantee.

I'm met more than my fair share of crappy project managers (both locals and foreigners) who happily put PMP behind their names in their email signature but they can't project manage to save their lives. No project plan even. And they call themselves project managers.

Thus, PMP to me only helps open doors. Gets you noticed.

Most Project Manager positions require you to be PMP certified, so yes, if you have prior project management experience and want to improve your career, taking the PMP is the way to go. Speaking from experience, my PMP helped me tremendously in both my career and pay. Of course, PMP is no piece of cake. Lots of hard work needed to pass it. I have seen many failures and fair share of passes as well. It all boils down to you and only you, on how you study and practice the material for the exam. Real-life experience does help in PMP at times, but most of the time, just follow the PMBOK and you will do fine.

I think it could be a placebo effect sometimes haha. but you are right. Most of my friends actually got interviews very easily after they are PMP certified.

But which course center to recommend?

I think no matter which center you take, ultimately you need to put real effort to study for the exam. Personally, Rita's book is good enough. My tips is memorize the PM Process Groups and Knowledge Area Mapping table, read her book, and do the questions at the end of each chapter

Finally, PMP does not seem to help me with jobs and interviews grrr....

Just wanna contribute my experience in going for PMP. I personally didn't research too much about which course provider to go for (at that time I went for ERC due to suitability of the course date/time).
I am a lazy person in terms of reading the book/theories, so I only focused on doing lots of practice questions (I must have done >1000 questions from Rita). I passed my test in the first attempt.
Make sure you master the few calculation subjects ; these are the "exact science" part of it, so die die must score correct point for these (actually quite easy once you understand the formula)

Recently enrolled myself for PMP. Any feedbacks if having PMP will make getting job interviews easier?

I finally found the training center after so many research.

Haha, i am taking mine in holistic thoughts. I like their statement, very funny -" dont let the high priced training centers overcharges you for buffet, high priced trainer, hotel location..."

One thing i found out is that for other training centers, the CItrep 50% discount is only refund to you after you pass the exam!! If i fail the exam and the course is so highly marked up, i need to pay for full sum of course 3k- 5k. This means all the risk is pass to me, make no sense at all. Only holistic thoughts is the first centre to absorb totally the citrep claim, that means you just need to pay them the discounted price can already, and most impt , dont need to wait for 6 months to claim your money from IDA itrain website.

Are they an approved PMI Registered Education Provider?

With CITREP endorsed providers, at least IDA is there to check and enforce on the quality of the training providers.

You may have limited options for recourse if the course does not turn out the way you want it if you sign up with non accredited providers

Don't find Holistic Thoughts in the list of approved training centres on the CITREP website. Unless Holistic Thoughts is registered in a different business registered name?

To those who had taken pmp before, the requirement is "4,500 hours leading and directing projects". So does those projects have to involve all areas such as purchasing?

And it says leading and directing, but what if the project is done equally by 2 or 3 person and there's no person directing the project, can it still be counted? Anybody can help answer this?

counted so long as you are part of the project team and able to relate the work you did to what is covered in the PMBOK. 4500 hours is for your time you spent in that project.

i attended the one at training partners and the trainer is good.. he has 15 years of experience in IT and the way he teach is easy to understand too.

haha... The trainer moved on to another training centre. Their company no longer partnering with TP and are now working with Bridgingminds Network

still the same great training but at a different centre
