Hello all, first post.

Been on a mac for the last 10 years. Gaming on console is getting boring and I'm planning on getting a serious gaming rig. I've even bought a case already. All i need now is some recommendations for a rig and someone who has the knowhow to build it well.

Since its my first proper gaming rig and I'm old enough to afford it, but young enough to enjoy it, i decided to go almost all out.

I've done a bit of research but these are my thoughts so far (Specific recommendations and comments are most welcomed):

X99 board with intel
dual GTX 980 SLI/GTX 780 Ti
Triple Rad watercooled (either Three 480 or two 480 and one 360 in push pull) Alphacool rads.
Cooling blocks for GPU, CPU, Chipset
16GB RAM
2 x 850 Samsung SSD in Raid 0
2 x 4 TB WD in Raid 1
Single or maybe dual reservoir
Hard tubing with aqua computer flow and coolant temp sensors
Aqua computer Aquero 6 XT controller
1200w - 1500w PS
Triple monitor setup
Thrustmaster A10 HOTAS setup.

I'm plan to play Star Citizen, Elite: Dangerous, on triple monitor setup. Also SOM.

I've ordered a Caselabs TH10A case already from the states. Should be enough to house everything.

Discounting the case, monitors, joystick setup I could probably spend 6-7k on hardware, but i think thats not enough for what I want?

Does anyone know if there is one shop I can go to that can provide me with all the goodies I need? Or do I have to hunt in separate shops? I'm looking for specific part recommendations.

I'm also looking for a builder in Singapore who can do custom watercooled loops.

Thanks for all the replies (or none).

I haven't been in the game for a while but am looking to build something similar to your rig in a couple of months.

One thing: definitely go with GTX 980s - they're pretty much better than the 780s in every aspect (power consumption, volume, performance).

And personally, I wouldn't bother with RAID for SSDs, don't quote me on this, but I feel like there won't be any (practical) performance gain especially with the Samsung 850s.

If you really want to have an extreme rig. I dont think it is a good idea to go for 4gb VRAM options and also a tri 1080p monitor only. Best to go for something more harder to drive and deserves to be in extreme setup components.

Such as tri 1440p display. And you wont need 2 x Samsung SSD to run at RAID 0 causing risk on your OS partition. Even if it is fast, you cant tell the difference. If you really want 2, it is better to run on RAID 1 instead to make sure there is a back up. At least you will know that if 1 is dead, your PC is still alive and running.

My recommendations:

ASUS X99 Deluxe + i7-5930K ~ $1316
GSkills Ripjaws 4 3200mhz 4x4GB x2 (32gb) 16-16-16-36 - $1618
WD Purple 4tb x2 ~ $462 RAID 1
Samsung 850 1tb Pro x2 ~ $1990 RAID 1
Palit 6gb Titan Black x3 3 way SLI ~ $4275
Corsair AX1500i 1500W 80+ Titanium Fully Modular PSU ~ $592
Asus Internal 12x Blu-ray Writer (BW-12B1ST) ~ $169
Asus PG278Q 27inch TN Panel 144hz Gsync Monitor x3 ~ $3777

Total ~ $14199.

Does not include custom water cooling. Will see what you really need for custom WC and will post again.

Thanks for the replies guys.

@royfrosty: This is not an extreme rig. This is "fall off the edge of the cliff and land on your ass flat broke" rig. But I appreciate you taking the time to write your reply. Thank you.

To rephrase, I guess maybe I am looking for a extreme rig within my budget. I'm trying to keep within my budget and go dual GTX 980. Also fine with 256GB 850 in raid 1. My plan was to run dual 256gb 850 in raid 0 for OS and 4tb in raid 1 for programs and data with nightly backups. 16gb of ram enough? I know the sky is the limit but for SGD 14199 plus 4500, almost SGD19k, I can buy a custom PC by 8pac or Singularity and have enough left over to go on a holiday.

About SGD 6 -7k without case and monitor? +/- 500 ok!

BTW, all the WC stuff you quoted, is there is anywhere to buy in SG or must buy from PPC or OCUK? Can be shipped in?

They look like they know what they are doing! Thanks for the recommendation!

I'm planning on overlocking the CPU and GPU so water cooling will be a must. Some parts I want for sure will be a Aquaero 6XT & dual GTX980. Hmm maybe I can send them a email to discuss the build first. What specs do you think I can get for SGD 7K?

7k better not go for x99 boards and i7 extreme. By doing so your water custom got to cut down a bit. So far if you really need to know, the mainstream i7 is more than enough for gaming needs.

Go for ref design for 980 so that you can find the water blocks easily.

Asus z97 maximus vii formula + i7-4790k ~ $900
Gskills Ripjaws 2133mhz 2x8gb kit ~ $233
WD Purple 4tb x2 ~ $462
Samsung EVO 250gb x2 ~ $286 (wait for lazada.sg promo)
Crucial m.2 512gb m550 ssd ~ $364 (amazon sgd converted)
Asus gtx 980 4gb ref card x2 sli ~ $1778 (mynextcom)
Seasonic P1000 1000w 80+ platinum fully modular psu ~ $339
Asus Internal 12x Blu-ray Writer (BW-12B1ST) ~ $169

Total ~ $4531.

The remainder of the budget will go to your wc. Reasonable? Cause for 2.5k for wc should be enough to cool this setup.

Furthermore please dont go to scorpio. Wait they chop you gaogao.

Sorry guys, just to be clear. I can spend SGD 7 K on PC parts. Excluding WC, monitor, case. So if with WC you are saying its sgd 2.5K so total should be almost 10k?

Also, what monitor you recommend?

Bro... No point spending over 7k in a gaming rig. It's better to opt for an annual upgrade, cause by then the new gpu would have outperform your older gpu. Also in gaming rigs, the law of diminishing applys, so your gaming performance can only get so powerful until a small amount of gain.

Can dual GTX 980 run triple monitor setup? Or better going for 1 4k? Sorry I haven't done much research into it. Eventually I would like a triple monitor setup although to keep the initial cost down I could go with 1 first.

If its 3x 1080p, den still possible though dun expect 60fps on average. If its 3x 1440p, den its even harder. Gpu nowadays not good enough to run single handed for 1440p.

Maybe new upcoming GM200 might help. But it will b very ex.
