Well, let's put it this way, how difficult is it to input the proper/correct name when buying the air ticket? the boxes are labeled, first name, family name, etc, on the reservation page.

It takes time for the check-in staff to over-ride the name in the system. Imagine taking 3 mins to do check and do for each name, and if there's 10 pax with such an error, it's a 30 mins delay.

HK immigration did away with the stamping on the passport. Each pax saves 3 seconds. 3 seconds may seem very short. But considering there were 47 million visitors last year … [much] time will be saved.

Funny you should ask. I did enter the right order, but somehow the JAL booking system cocked up, charged my card twice, I called to reverse the transaction, but only a month later I realised I could not log in due to name being in wrong order.

Bumping this thread.
It usually is no problem if you check in at the counter.
But if you want to use automatic check in, the stupid self check in counter will not let you do so because TAN AH MENG is not the same as AH MENG TAN.
Happened to me at Suvanabumi Airport in Bangkok recently. Cannot self check in . had to queue for half an hour.

Hi all, I recently booked a ticket with JAL and realised my first name and last name has been reversed. So on my passport my name is "TAN AH MING" but the ticket now reads "AH MING TAN". I called the airline and they say I have to pay SGD60 per pax for the name change, and I am very reluctant to do so :(

Is that going to be a problem when flying to and fro Japan?

Thanks.

Did you manage to check in? Any issue?
