You have to swing by Bangkok but remember that its a bit more traffic now. Christmas time. You have to give yourself 45-1Hr ahead for any appointment.

Going there in Dec, perhaps flight might be quite full, since going over the weekends ... Can expect the immigration custom to be quite packed ...

Hello first time going and intend to spend 5 days there.

Going there solo free and easy traveler.

Just have 2 small questions hope can guide.
is BKK accessible on foot? or go many places must book grab / "tuk tuk"?

watched many videos... can see bkk got many cars and a little worry that walk ways look quite crowded with street shops. still cannot conclude, and am afraid to get on their buses. I have been watching how to use their MRT (if not wrong there is two type of company?)

and.. for a first timer, which area is the recommended to stay at. as in easy to go around, evening easy to find way back to hotel and when going back wont have to travel too long to airport (Suvarnabhumi Airport). i will book a hotel around that area (budget around $30 a night, and doesnt have to be around airport area la haha)

PS newbie question. the only other place i been to solo free and easy is Taiwan <3

I had different experience with bts when I was in Bangkok this month. It was my 1st Thailand experience which has been much better than expected. Mainly because I relied on grab or tuktuk for traveling around.

I tried bts once at chartuchak. Firstly I need to prepare lots of coins to buy tickets. If not I need to join a long queue to buy tickets. Then many walkways to bts station are without shelter and walking to bts station under the hot sun isn't pleasant. Lastly bts ticket isn't much cheaper than taking grab. We took bts from chartuchak to a station costing 80 baht while grab only cost 110 baht.

Also many tourist attractions including temples, floating markets aren't near bts stations

bangkok is easy to move about via their BTS/MRT

You can walk to most shopping centre, dont really need tuk tuk/grab.

I never book any tuk tuk or grab when i go bangkok, every place that i went is near a BTS/MRT or walking distance. This includes most of the tourist destinations and night markets.

agree ... normally would take grab ... cox wont stay near bts most of the times. if 3 or more people, best to take grab, if u dont mind the jam ...

the traffic in Bangkok was better than expected as we only experienced jam when we travelled from airport to platunam.
