Actually there's a quite a bit of rules to follow in JP. In train, you are supposed to turn your phone to "manner mode" ie silent. And you should not be talking on the phone, the usual priority seats, and the off mobile phone corner in protection of people with implanted medical devices etc. elevator riding is to stand at the left side while in Tokyo, right side in Osaka. Q-ing for train at the platform, some buses are boarded from the back some in front. Some buses accept cash only, some IC card and cash also can. Bicycle rules. Forbidden items rules.

There are also chopsticks manner, kushikatstu source dipping manner, onsen manners etc. There are tons of them to observe. You just have to be observant and do what the local are doing.

Keep to 1 side of the escalators, don't talk on mobile phone on trains, mobile phone on silent mode when on trains.

As for souvenirs, here's what I usually buy:
-Shiroi Koibito white chocolate biscuits
-Potato farm potato snacks
-Castella cake
-Insoles from Tokyu Hands
-Fried rice seasoning powders from convenience stores or 100yen stores or Don Quijote stores
-SD card empty cases
-Cute AA-sized rechargeable batteries
-Chocolates/biscuits which comes in cute metal tins (I usually get One Piece, Naruto, Hello Kitty designs if I happen to see those)
-Either One Piece or Miffy or Care Bears mobile phone strap from every prefecture that I visit (they have different designs for the various prefectures, usually can find from souvenir shops at train stations)
-various cute snacks from convenience stores (I personally love the choco panda biscuits from Family Mart)
-some hair accessories like scrunchies and hair clips
-One Piece/Naruto/Miffy character goods

This one, シュガーバターの木, maybe might have in narita (haneda dont have), is new product. Also found in departmental stores

For the diff area kit kat, a bit hard to find all flavours in narita unless u r lucky to find the mini 15 flavour box.

For the special chocolatary flavour like cream cheese, chilli etc only found in 3 places in japan (2 in tokyo, another i forgot but not airport)
