I have. Average burgers but I like the rootbeer float. Then again, I like any rootbeer float :s13:
Hmm. Dosen't sound too good then! I think they have some happy hour promotion on beer and burgers? any idea?

and I've always wanted to try morton's happy hour. friend paid 14 for martini + free flow filet mignon burgers. :o

anyway, swatchie, any other places to recommend in the east? :p

p.s your pictures from the Brasserie Les Saveurs brunch looks damn good.

Yea I think fatboys has some happy hour thingy but I don't really drink beer so never really notice. Morton's happy hour is worth it. Last time the martini was only $9.80 though :o The fillet sandwiches are good but can't beat the million dollar burger (though the burger I had during my last visit 2 mths back was bad. They waived it off and gave me a free molten choc cake though)

Hmm I usually eat in the East during lunch and I personally like Wo Peng (macpherson), liang kee & ban heng (whampoa), Changi beach cafe (set lunch only), Cafe Oliv (used to be better), 4 Seasons Taiwanese food (Joo Chiat), T1 staff canteen fish soup, Imperial Treasure Cantonese (Crowne Plaza). Theres quite a few others but I lazy to list them all out :o

I think everything on Cafe Oliv's set lunch menu is passable, but don't expect anything great. Its just a nice place to sit down and have lunch at not too expensive prices. If u are looking for cheap and decent set lunches, try ALPS cafe @ Prinsep. Used to be $6.90 for set lunch - Soft drink, soup + main. Not too sure if they are still ard though. Last I ate there was 2 yrs back when my office was in town.

Ok I went to try With a pinch of salt for lunch just now. Food is passable but portions are quite small. Still, its only $6.90 nett. I don't like how they put MSG on their fries though. :o

Recipes: Angry Birds return with Green Pigs!

AngryBirds2_main.jpg

Our famous feathered friends are back! But here, instead of dishing out revenge on the green pigs who stole their eggs, they have come together to entertain you in a bento box.

Need a wet-weather plan this weekend? Why not gather the whole family and spend some quality time indoors to whip up this fun and delicious bento? Happy bento-ing!

Ingredients:

1 small bowl of rice

1 hard-boiled egg

1 kiwi fruit

1 slice sandwich cheese

Nori sheet (seaweed)

Carrot

1 crab stick, red portion

Side dish of your choice

2-3 thin spaghetti strips

AngryBirds2_black.jpg

Methods:

Black Bird:

1. Bring a small pot of water to a boil. Add in the egg and simmer over low heat for about 6 minutes until the egg becomes hardboiled.

2. While cooking the egg, place a sheet of cling wrap on one hand and scoop about 1 tablespoon of cooked rice on it. Shape the rice into a ball.

3. Slowly remove the cling wrap and cover the rice ball (known as an onigiri in Japanese) with a nori sheet.

4. Remove the cling wrap and place it on a paper cup liner and get ready to assemble the features.

5. Using the end of a big straw, cut out circles from the sandwich cheese to make the outline of the eyes. To make the eye balls, use a craft puncher on a nori sheet to get small circles.

6. Next, cut out long narrow strips from the red portion of a crabstick to make the eye brows.

7. Cut out the other features of the face (as seen in the image) from a carrot. To secure the cheese or carrot features, use thin spaghetti strips to attach them to the rice ball.

8. Arrange all the items into the bento box with any side dish of your choice such as fried ebi, teriyaki chicken or stir-fried spicy pork.

AngryBirds2_green_pig.jpg

Green Pig:

1. Cut the kiwi fruit into 0.5cm thick slices (you’ll need 4 slices) and arrange them in a rectangular paper cup liner.

2. From the remaining kiwi fruit, cut out shapes that resemble the ears and nose using a small fruit knife. Attach the features to one of round kiwi slices with spaghetti strips.

3. Using the end of a big straw, cut out circles from the sandwich cheese to make the outline of the eyes. To make the eye balls, use a craft puncher on a nori sheet to get small circles. Attach the eyes to the ‘face’.

AngryBirds2_white.jpg

White Angry Birds:

1. Shell the hard-boiled egg. Slice a thin portion off the bottom of the egg to make a flat base (this is to help the egg balance on the bento)

2. Using the end of a big straw, cut out circles from the sandwich cheese to make the outline of the eyes. To make the eye balls, use a craft puncher on a nori sheet to get small circles. Attach the eyes to the ‘face’.

3. Cut out the other features of the face (as seen in the image) from a carrot. To secure the cheese or carrot features, use thin spaghetti strips to attach them to the egg.

4. We used a small food pick for the bird ‘crown’. You can also cut out a small heart shape from a strawberry.

Kung Fu Panda bento recipe

PandaBento_main.jpg

Kung Fu Panda 2, the sequel to the 2008 computer-animated action comedy is back to entertain both kids and adults alike.

Well, Po - the kung fu panda is not just fighting its way to the top of the box office but also to a bento box - along with his siblings. Why not try out this cute and easy way to prepare a panda bento and enjoy this “kick-butt” meal while watching the movie!

PandaBento_steps1.jpg

Ingredients:

1½ tablespoon cooked rice

2 quail eggs, cooked and shelled

Some broccoli (the ‘flower’ portion)

Fried ebi (prawn)

1 slice sandwich cheese

Nori sheet

Crab stick, red portion

Some blueberries/raisins

2 – 3 thin spaghetti strips

Method:

1. Blanch the broccoli in boiling water for a few minutes, remove, rinse and drain well. (refer to the mini egg panda steps)

2. Reheat frozen fried ebi in toaster oven while preparing the rice ball.

3. Place a sheet of cling wrap on hand, scope about 1½ tablespoon of cooked rice on it and shape it into a flat oval shaped rice ball.

4. Open the cling wrap and place a long rectanglar nori sheet at the bottom of the rice ball and wrap as shown in the photo using the same cling wrap to adjust the shape.

5. Place the completed rice ball on a paper cup liner and get ready to assemble the features using small blueberries/raisins starting with the ears. Secure them with spaghetti strips.

6. Next, use a small food cutter to cut out desire shapes from the sandwich cheese to decorate the panda. Use a craft puncher on the nori sheet to get the face features.

7. Lastly, assemble the broccoli, panda onigiri (rice ball) and fried ebi into the bento box and serve.

PandaBento_steps2.jpg
To assemble the mini egg panda

Method:

1. Use a small flower shaped food cutter, cut out mini flowers from the red portion of the crabstick.

2. Arrange the mini flowers on top of the cooked broccoli at one corner of the bento box.

3. Using the same method as the panda onigiri above, fix two small blueberries with spaghetti strips on the quail eggs to act as ears.

4. Next, assemble the face features of the egg panda using craft puncher and nori sheet.

5. Lastly, you can also dot some tomato/chili sauce on the face of the mini egg panda to act as blusher.
