Actually nothing wrong with your plan. However personally I would choose to spend an extra day in MR region rather than staying at Swan River. MR area also farm activities so I would either do Perth/Fremantle first or last, i.e. After MR area. Just a personal preference as I find MR side to be more relaxed.

Note, entrance fees for attractions are quite costly so perhaps you could be more selective. Shopping (except for dairy products and nuts) are also more costly. Not exactly a shopping destination.

I wouldn't do so many days in Freo. Max 2 days. If you stop by Busselton, do try Simmos ice cream.

u can also try to stay around Busselton area. Lots of choices there. From here its about 40min drive to MR area so not that far away.

Yes the area is very small so you shouldn't have any problems spotting it. Be careful of the seagulls though.

thanks for your advice :)

there are quite a few caves to visit. I am thinking of trying the jewel cave since it is near to Cape Leeuwin and along the way...

just apprehensive how child friendly these caves are..

There's a multistorey beside the market, 1st hr free. But if you park further away along the road, should be free.

No free parking at Fremantle. The parking next to the market is by Wilson parking. No 1st hour free also on weekends.

Most likely will be planning for an early May'16 road trip from Perth to MR.

Just to check, do people usually drive from MR straight back to Perth at 1 go for Airport departure? Or are there any attractions/places to stop between MR -> Perth?

It is a 5D4N self-drive trip, I have not purchase any air tickets yet but I am fixed on the month of May (1st week).

Hope you understand what I'm trying to convey, thanks.

I'm sure you can if you are used to long distance driving. If not, it is not recommended.

Wouldn't you want to stop for breaks some refreshments before continuing on the journey. Set off early and don't rush. Remember, speed limits are to be adhere to strictly. If not be prepared to receive fines

It's certainly do-able, though I would suggest to allow maybe about 4 - 4.5 hours to be comfortable.
The actual distance is about 280km according to Google Maps.

I presume with your suggested plan, that you'll be staying in Perth first, then proceed south, and head straight back to airport on the final day?
