From a technical point of view, spot gold has resumed its recent downtrend as shown on the 4-hour chart. In fact, it has retreated after approaching a bearish trend line drawn from August's high. It has now broken below both the 20-period and 50-period moving averages, signaling a bearish bias. The level at $1,919 may be considered as the nearest resistance, while a break below the nearest support at $1,848 would open a path to the next support at $1,830.

AUDUSD shows continued upside momentum

The pair is on its way to test Sept highs after a classic pattern breakout.

Looking at the week's largest gainer, the AUD/USD comes out on top with a gain of 3.43% or 241 pips after confirming a key breakout. The pair has continued to show upside momentum after breaking above a declining trend channel and a falling wedge reversal pattern. As long as 0.715 can hold as support, look for a continuation higher to test recent highs near the 0.742 level posted back in September and the uptrend to continue higher. A break below 0.715 support would invalidate the pattern breakout and put pressure on the pair down to 0.699 support.

The US Dollar is holding at key support against the Singapore Dollar, which is a range between 1.3441 and 1.3459. USD/SGD recently attempted to break under this barrier, but left behind a lower wick. This is as positive RSI divergence showed downside momentum fading. The latter can at times precede a turn higher. A push above the 1.3527 – 1.3543 inflection zone could open the door to testing descending resistance from June. Otherwise, confirming a breakout under support exposes the 2018 inflection zone on the chart below.
