As refrigerator is critical in terms of food spoiling and you will need it immediately when it is not working (unlike washing machine, microwave, dish washer or dryer), I have one 10 year old 1 tick samsung refrigerator (brought new last time) and 1 second hand samsung refrigerator as standby.

In this case, I can use the spare as and when I needed additional refrigerator space, or use it only when the main refrigerator breaks down.

Space is not an issue for my hdb 5 room flat and my main refrigerator did break down recently and I have to wait 5 days for the replacement parts (it cost only $20).

This standby refrigerator scenario is also suitable for newly purchased refrigerator as they can also break down and you still have to wait for the repairman schedule or parts (i.e. you simply can't go and buy a new one right?).

Hitachi.

Go neighbourhood shops they should have ready stock
Think neighbourhood those long standing electrical shop buy is much better. As they are established there. Tend have good relationship with established brands or company they take their stocks from. Won't anyhow as their reputation there at stake. Anything they also more accessible.

Second this. We bought a new fridge when an existing fridge started showing signs of breaking down. I think competition really spurs better performance because the old fridge had remain working ever since the new one arrived :s13:

So the old fridge now serves as backup and holds mainly stuff for the kids so they can abuse it instead of the new one.

IMHO.
If no size limitation, just get one which can give you max warranty.
Places like Courts have extended warranty on-site - peace of mind and can bargain a bit.
Harder to find 4 ticks models these days.
Look at the safety mark - 25xxxx-xx means tested in 2025 i.e. newer model.
I using LG.
