but if the mainboard has already died on you, buying another hdd to replace the old and faulty one will not bring the mainboard back and might be a waste of money. unless u haf the idea of getting it as a portable hdd.

no, he isnt sad, cos he uploaded MY few gb of animes into the harddisk =.= if its his, i will be luffing at him ><

i still cannot get over the fact that they didnt manage to detect mainboard's failure at the first check-up. the service counter also cannot on my laptop when i sent it in. haiz... if i had the hdd replaced at the centre for $290, maybe i can get back the amount or the mainboard's failure can be detected immediately, not after i complained.

Well, to be fair, i think i must say the engineer at fujitsu will not anyhow diagnose your machine.

In the first place, they offer to sell you their HDD at $290. Have you ever wondered? Why would fujitsu want to sell a HDD at that kinda price, which is alot higher then the market rate? That is, they have some kinda "guarantee" over it. And if you have agreed to replace in the first place, the engineer would have got your HDD replaced on the machine, and stress test the machine a few days before asking you for collection. In that scenario, the disaster of the mainboard failure might have been apprehended on time, allowing the engineer to quote you accordingly.

In fact, since you have decided not to replace the HDD, I believe they had also handed your machine over for your collection without any further diagnostic. And you had proceeded to replace the HDD on your own, or rather, get it replaced by a 3rd party vendor other then Fujitsu itself. There is a sure price to pay.

Lastly, when you machine failed you at last, have you ever thought of bringing your machine back to the vendor who sold/replaced you the new HDD and question them? And on what reasons/grounds you decide to bring back to Fujitsu instead?

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks ... sorry for my poor description. I was referring to the exterior panel when u close the LCD. I assume that there should be an charging indicator at the exterior to tell the user that the unit is charging ...

any idea where i can get a copy of S6240 recovery cd other than fujitsu?

no problem, so is the issue solved? u able to charge?
recovery cd can only get from fujitsu. even if you have friends using same s6240, the recovery cd might be different as the model/specification might not be the same. but you can try copying one from ur frens.

As far as i know, you can only get them from Fujitsu.

Well, you can always try places like SLS, to see if they have taken in any of the S6240 around with the recovery CDs to sell you. But i can say that chances are slim, as S6240 are pretty new models.

Or, you can get a generous reseller there to duplicate you a set! :p

im quite confused abt the hdd part. I brought my laptop to the center for checkup all because i cant switch on my laptop. I m not very expert in computer, but i assumed that if hdd is spoilt, it wont affect the power at all. maybe the startup will tell u hdd not detected, or os will restart itself again but no chance that the power cannot be on at all, no power to the monitor at all.

so i called describing fully the reappearance of all the power cannot be on failure. i was told to bring it down for checkup again. there, at the centre, was told power switch cannot be on means mainboard problem.

My new hdd can run normally. I played with it for a few hours. I can copy data, run windows, install program normally. In fact, i still cannot on my laptop initially. it took me a quite alot of tries to start the system.

If new problem appears after the hdd was replaced, i will certainly have doubts on the new hdd and procedure.

BUT, it is the same old symptom, not new problem appearing out of sudden. This is the symptom that prompted me to send it to the centre in the first place.

What did you tell them when you first brought your machine in for diagnostic? What was the fault recorded on your service report?

couldnt exactly remember what was said, i only remembered saying cannot on power. then the person pressed on power switch n nothing came out and she started typing into the system.

huh? what is a service report? i only got 3 slips of papers, 1 net payment receipt, 1 invoice like paper, n 1 paper for the collection of laptop. signed on a piece of paper that records my hardware config etc

So the service staff see your problem and resolve it already? Or it is another cost for another service. :)

It always happened to me due to not knowledge on future forecasting.

Did you get the total correct answer for your life? Guess some time, it is just luck. If he told you that he know how to forecast and you going to pay for big time, i doubt you will belive too.

Anyone using the T4210?

Is it ok to buy my own kingston RAM and upgrade the memory myself? Cos it is much cheaper then getting it from fujitsu..

shld be ok if u got the same specification for the RAM. but to my knowledge, the laptop warranty doesn't cover for that particular RAM that u bought.
