I just set up my US PSN account based on the guide that the bro PierceLee provided. Just a question though, how do I load credits to purchase the games? Seeing how they don't accept SG credit cards. I know that you can get the PSN+ from Amazon, is it the same for the credits?

And whoever is interested in getting the hard copy of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Amazon is selling it at USD39.90.

That guide links back to this Game Deals thread. Read the intro section of first post on digital purchase from another region, then jump to the second post on where to purchase PSN card digitally. Typically we buy from Amazon or pcgamesupply.

Hi guys. Thanks for the very helpful thread. Sorry am quite new to PS4. Have a qn on the US PSN account. If I set up account and buy games. Then install on my Asia account - in the future if my US account gets ban, can I still play the games bought from the us psn store on my asia psn account?

Thanks bro PierceLee. I will keep a look out at Amazon since I'm always on it. But out of curiosity, do you have any particular dealer on Amazon? PM me if possible. Thanks again!

Usually just go for items sold by Amazon themselves. Sometimes those sold by third party but delivered by Amazon still ok. Those completely handled by third party usually has different shipping methods and shipping cost, kinda tedious to manage and don't really want to be dealing with varying quality of service (like ebay). Amazon themselves offer free shipping to SG if order is over us$125, except for bulky items.

Lol, why would your US account get banned? :s13:

If you use US account to buy digital games from US PSN store, you can still play using SG account (or any other region), so long as...
- US account and SG account are on the same PS4
- US account (the one buying games) activated that PS4 as its primary PS4 (login that account on that PS4, Settings > PlayStation Network/Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PS4 > Activate)

This should apply to over 99% of the games, which are not region locked. There could be very rare cases where a game or DLC is region locked (can only be played by another account from the same region) or even account locked (can only be played by the account that made the purchase). So far I am not aware of any such game on the PS4 (but The Crew's DLCs are account locked, even though the base game is not locked at all).

Avatars purchased are always account locked.

Thanks for the reply bro! Am just scared that Sony starts to ban overseas users from using their US accounts :)

But this also helps me to understand how the downloaded game works. If I follow your instructions, then is the game installed on my PS4 permanently? So even if get us acct get banned, game still can use?

Thanks bro Pierce. Super helpful.

So far only heard of some people (not in SG) getting banned becos their account name is offensive or has something religious/extremist/whatever (I think there was a case where the word "jihad" is banned). Or most recently one person was banned for posting very naughty nudity screenshots from Watch Dogs 2. But nothing is heard about what happened to the games these ppl owned.

It's quite impossible that Sony will stop people outside US from using US account. The practice is so widespread that Sony will have a riot on their hands. After all, US citizens can be working in SG and they will still want to play games they own on their US accounts, right?

The common way to detect where you are physically located is via IP address, and that can be beaten by using a VPN. This is a bit difficult to do on the PS4 since there is no VPN service that runs on PS4, so you have to use VPN at the router level. Some routers support this, if used with VPN service provider that supports it. My Republic has a VPN service so all your internet traffic is seen as another country (other ISPs probably has something similar). Or if you tether your PS4's wifi through a PC/laptop, you can run VPN on the PC/laptop. Anyway, it's a bit more tedious to mask your IP address on PS4, that's why you should avoid PS services that's IP address-locked by regions, like PS Now (game streaming), PS Vue (video streaming) or purchasing movies on PSN store. It's highly unlikely we will have to do all that to circumvent any region control but there are still ways if we need to.

To answer the part about installing permanently... you don't have to keep it on your PS4 permanently. Everything you purchased is recorded in your account as yours. You can install them any time, delete them, install again and so on (similar to Steam, Google Play, iTunes etc.).

Thanks Bro Pierce! Understand now. But If I want to keep the games permanently on my PS4 - I can right. So I can continue playing them even if the unlikeliest event of Sony banning overseas accounts.

Since it's an unlikeliest event, I wouldn't worry about it. As there is no telling how Sony is going to implement such a ban (stop that account from logging in to PSN, remove all items from that account's ownership, etc), so it's hard to tell whether having a game installed on the PS4 hdd will survive what Sony implements. Maybe Sony has a backdoor command that can nuke our PS4 and wipe off all games owned if an account is banned, in that case may need to unplug all network cables :s13:.

In some cases, like those free games you get from PS+, they carry a "valid period". The installed games have an end date (set to the end date of your current PS+ subscription) and won't work thereafter, even if it's permanently installed. If you extend your PS+, the valid period gets extended, so perhaps the PS4 does periodic checks or the server side can issue a command to update all valid period on the PS4.

Fully purchased games do not have such period, but from time to time, people report that their installed games don't work and they have to re-validate the license (an option on the ps4 menu). So perhaps Sony does verify the license of each game periodically by forcing you to log on to your account, even if the game is fully purchased. This is only logical and reasonable, for example, you might have bought a game wrongly or for whatever reason you contact customer service to cancel the purchase and get a refund. If Sony agrees to refund you, then they must have a way to prevent you from playing the installed game, even if you disconnect network cables.

So having a purchased game installed and never deleting it should be permanent enough (though you are wasting HDD space) but in theory it is possible that Sony can stop you from playing it. And of cos one risk of such digital ownership is what if the company goes bankrupt? (Sony, Valve, or for that matter, DBS, UOB, OCBC... :D)
