is the alienware graphic amplifier bad?
From my opinion, the concept is great, but in actual fact it makes little sense.
Think about this, you have a laptop that needs to connect to a pricey box that does not come with any graphic card. So you gotta buy a graphic card. Plus the box only works with Alienware laptops. So you wanna change laptop next time, your only choice is Alienware again, if you wanna reuse the box.
In a nutshell,
1) The box is big, so not mobile at all
2) It only works with Alienware laptops with the proprietary connector
3) The cost of the box is USD 300 bucks, and you need to factor in the price of an Alienware laptop that works with it, and an additional graphic card. Easily it will bring you close to or more than 4K again.
4) I am not sure if the box will allow the GPU to run at its full potential because I suspect its not running a PCI x16 speed. Most solution runs max at x4 utilizing a Thunderbolt 3 connection speed, which may bottleneck a high end card's performance.
Given this option, I would recommend buying a desktop and a tablet/hybrid for around the same cost.
