Looking to DIY a gaming PC and have been reading some of the recent threads.

Shortlisted some of the items

PC will be used for gaming and work. Budget range between 1.7K to 2K

Which MB and CPU to go for? Intel ?AMD ?
Which monitor for 4K gaming?

at the lower end (<$500), both will offer a similar level of performance. if looking to save a buck and not intending to upgrade soon can go amd, 5600 non x + cheap b550 can go as low as 39X. 12400f + decent b660 board is a little bit more expensive at 4XX, but (should) have the option of upgrading to 13th gen in the future. 5700x and 12700f combos do also fit into ur upper budget limit of 2k; they will offer similar gaming performance with a 6600, though the 12700f pulls ahead in some productivity workloads like 3d rendering and the adobe suite.

i would also suggest getting the 6600 from bizgram, they have a gigabyte model going for 3XX. the casing is a little too expensive for my taste, but if it has some usp that appeals to u then bopian. otherwise looks good.

i think go for 12400f first then next time upgrade the CPU, spend the rest of budget on GPU.

Thank you gurus for the advise. Sound like 12400f + decent b660 is the way to move forward.

As for the Casing , this is more for my boy who like RBG


How about for monitor ? Is Prism 4K good to move ahead ?

can just get a cheaper casing and add rgb fans/strips. can replace the cpu cooler fan with rgb ones also.

prism is ok for the most part but i wouldnt recommend it due to the relatively poor quality of panels used. u can consider from this video from 8:11:

6600 will struggle at 4k gaming though, its more suited for 1080p to 1440p.

If you want something with RGB out of the box, consider Phanteks G360A, which comes with 3 preinstalled ARGB fans. It's priced at SGD 135+, I believe.

Nah, avoid prism.

Also, you need a more powerful GPU to have a smooth 4K gaming experience. 4K monitors are expensive too. Combining these two is likely to burst your budget.

i guess no need 4K ba... just a normal gaming PC for him will be good enough.
