thx zreo!

hey guys, fractal design define r5 or s?

would love the r5 but dont need so many 3.5" drives. s is cheaper as well.

but r5 has optical drive and more hdds slots. although i could pull my samsung dvd writer from old pc to read cds if any on an adhoc basis. not going to WC as well...

but feels like the define S WC capabilities are kinda wasted if not wcing

Emmm did you realize i posted the below on the first page?

Casing can consider fractal design s. Think of it as a define r5 but with all of the hdd brackets removed and placed on the back instead. Cheaper too. Good if you are planning to at most have 3 hdd and 2 ssd which i think is plenty.

The case being so empty in the middle basically means more airflow so not necessarily a waste even if you did not got for wc

Current Build

Case: Fractal Design Define R5 (Purchased)

CPU + Mobo: ? i6500 + ? Mobo - still deciding on brand and B150 or H170

Ram: DDR4 kingston 8gb ram x 1
where is the best place to get this? SLS? $47 at pcthemes
also selling a G.SKill 2400mhz cl15 8gb for 50 bucks, whats the difference?
wont the speed be locked at 2133 anyway?

GPU: ? Nvidia 1070 - still waiting

PSU: Superflower Leadex 550W Silver (Purchased)

SSD: Samsung EVO 850 500gb (Purchased)

HDD: Recommendation for a 2 TB drive? WD blue 2TB is $110, noticed that the WD blue 1TB is named different in pcthemes price list. (1tb blue 64mb sata3 VS 2tb blue 5400rpm) any difference? or just diff storage size? will prefer to get larger then 1 tb, fills up fast.

OS: Still wondering on this, how legit is qoo10 / reddit? do you get the physical cd and etc or what? but you can only use it on 1 com i heard?

if i do a reformat and fresh install, what happens then?

thanks all for the help so far! rly appreciate it. 1st self built diy com btw

CPU + Mobo: ? i6500 + ? Mobo - still deciding on brand and B150 or H170 [if u need more features and upgrade get H170 else B150]

[I would say not much differences just a few timing faster(base on review depends on ur usage), but u will need to check if the board can support that timing or not.]

GPU: ? Nvidia 1070 - still waiting

PSU: Superflower Leadex 550W Silver (Purchased)

SSD: Samsung EVO 850 500gb (Purchased)

(1tb blue 64mb sata3 VS 2tb blue 5400rpm) any difference? or just diff storage size? will prefer to get larger then 1 tb, fills up fast. [if it just for normal storage 2TB 5400rpm is more than enough. but if speed, den just get HGST or Toshiba both running at 7200rpm]

OS: Still wondering on this, how legit is qoo10 / reddit? do you get the physical cd and etc or what? but you can only use it on 1 com i heard?

if i do a reformat and fresh install, what happens then?

[Depends on the seller, but most of the time they just email u the cd key codes, and if they are OEM den u can only use it on the same mobo but not different PC. if u do that u can still reuse it]

thanks all for the help so far! rly appreciate it. 1st self built diy com btw

as per zreo there were some probs with the asus b150 pro gaming aura that time?

the msi boards do look good

Basically is RAID support, maximum theoretical USB counts and AMD Crossfire (no SLI)

http://ark.intel.com/compare/90595,90592

If you can fully populate a H170's USBs (case +mobo rear), or use crossfire then it'll be worth the buy. It's also 6 SATA 6Gb/s for the B150 while the H170 reference spec is 4. If you're not using those features, a B150 will be more cost effective and offer the same performance.
