Dear Bros,

I am looking to build a gaming rig suitable to play the latest games like BF4, Call of Duty and my favourite Dota 2 on high settings.

May the pros here share what cost am i looking at?

Thank you Thank you!

That can easily run BF4 which is the most graphic intensive game you stated at high setting no problem.

You can change the quoted CPU to i5 4670 to save around $100 if you are not planning to record, play or open any programs that relies heavily on multi-threading at the same time. The performance difference is not much.

Use value ram instead of the ripjaw if you are going for atheistic or overclocking. Can save around $20. Not much performance difference.

You can go for Intel i5-4570 instead and get a SSD.

Dear guys, i am prepared to fix the rig soon. May i know your thoughts between these alternatives? Thank you!:):):)

Intel i7-4770 3.4Ghz -----------------> Should i down grade to i5 4670?
MSI B85-G43 Gaming Motherboard ------> My concern from online reviews is that MSI don't provide good boards compared to Asus.
G.SKill Ripjaws 4GB x 2 1600Mhz RAM ----> 8GB Ram enough or 16GB?
MSI GTX 760 2GB Gaming --------------> Change to MSI R29 280X TF OC 3GB DDR5 Gaming
LG DVD Writer
Seasonic S12G 650W PSU -------------> This one need to change to cater to R29 280X?
Toshiba 1TB Harddisk -----------------> Add a SSD for OS
Sharkoon T28 Red

Msi, gigabyte, asus are all top tier motherboard makers. Not sure which board you are comparing to. Try to compare the asus maximus vi extreme to the msi xpower and gigabyte sniper 5.

If you don't get what i mean, compare boards within the same price range and see their pros and cons.

If money is not your concern, get the best then.

In terms of price to performance ratio, i5 4570 > i5 4670 > i7 4770.
i5 4570 should run fine on high setting if you have a good graphic cards.

MSI board is good and price is moderate.
ASUS board is slightly better in terms of quality and price is kinda expensive.

8GB is enough, many games will not utilize more than 6GB. Battlefield4 doesnt not hit more than 4.5GB at max setting with OS running.

To be honest. All of the specs recommended to you other than jian19 build is overkilled.

Lets take it that you wanna play bf4 at everything at ultra settings and max AA. With at least 60fps and above.

Msi b85m g43 + I5-4570 ~ $347
Kingston hyperX 1600mhz 2x4gb kit ~ $105
Wd blue 1tb ~ $77
Plextor m5s 128gb ~ $128
Powercolor r9 280x 3gb ~ $404
Superflower hx600 600w 80+ gold ~ $108
Fractal design arc midi ~ $129
Samsung ODD ~$21
Windows 8.1 ~ $125

Total $1444 buy at tradepac. Diy

Gtx760 will never give you a decent fps for bf4 ultra and stay above 60fps. Even if turn AA off.

I notice always a certain shop will try to recommend gtx760 unless u are very firm on getting r9280x or others. Personal experience and also from rigs built by them posted on fb. I wonder why. And also the rig like not balanced, powerful cpu but matched with gtx 760.

gtx 760 is a decent card, they might not have stock for the 280x

Can lah. Single r9 280x can stay above 60. Even the worse map like operation locker bombarding room the worse fps is at 50fps min. Else ok ba.
