Gaming Rig Recommendation ($1.5k+/-)

Hello gurus, am looking to purchase a rig with the budget of about $1.5k and I've been reading a couple of threads here and there as well as the "DIY PC Rig Recommendations".

Not ultra savvy on it and hasn't been following the scene so idk like what's the flavor atm etc. so I'll need some advise on it!

1) Since like 12.12 is around the corner I was wondering if it'll be worth it to purchase from the likes of Mansa/AFTERSHOCK etc?
Or still better to head down to SLS and pay a small fee to get them to ensemble the rig?

there's also the legend Fortran right? Would he be able to match the aforementioned prices?

edit: Currently leaning towards option B and upgrading the PSU to ASUS ROG STRIX 850W 80+ GOLD FULLY MODULAR (+$98)

better to go prebuilt around this 1.5k budget, plus u may be able to get sales. if u look at the diy recommendation, its not really that great and out of the 4 options u shortlisted, it is only ahead of the mansa build which is very overpriced anyway. and that was already looking around price lists from several shops for good prices, if u go sls and ask shop assemble will likely cost even more. ill probably subsume the midrange reco as an upgrade option to the value reco in an upcoming revision.

rockarolla already said my mind on this in the diy thread, invaderpc is best with the 750w rog strix psu upgrade. id only go 4060ti if the whole build is around (preferably less than) 1.1k, aftershock had a 5600 + 4060ti build for 998 until yesterday which was not bad if u close eye to the cheap parts elsewhere like mobo and psu. their 7500f + 4070 is more expensive than invaderpc and u cant upgrade psu - their default hydro gd2 is unknown quality. mansa, as mentioned above, is just overpriced, pretty standard to see them charge way more than what they should, almost as if they are relying on customers who dont know what theyre buying.

How big of a difference would the 7500f/4070 invaderpc's rig vs. the said 5600/4060ti aftershock's rig be?
Assuming it's like 1.5k vs 1k. (In layman term, like which is more value for dollar?)
1080p should be pretty similar and 1440p onwards 4070 slaps? + 4070 is 12GB VRAM

the upgrade to the msi a750gl is also a decent option. i wouldnt upgrade the cooler though, the 7500f sips power, but if u forsee urself upgrading the system in the future to a more powerful cpu then investing in a better cooler now is not a bad idea either.

the 4070 is about 30% faster in general, though there can be instances where the lacklustre memory subsystem of the 4060ti (low vram, narrow memory bus) can hamper its performance at higher resolutions allowing the 4070 to pull even further ahead. thats why i mentioned that the 4060ti build should ideally cost no more than 1.1k, so if its 1k it delivers more gpu performance per dollar. cpu performance generally doesnt matter a lot if ur maxing out ur gpu, though if u value upgradability on the same socket then am4 might not be the best choice as it is eol. and when the cpu becomes the bottleneck, the 5600 is a gen behind the 7500f (~10-20% behind).

I'll go with the 7500f/4070 invaderpc one and upgrade the psu to msi a750gl and leaving the cooler as the cm 212 one (since I probably won't upgrade the system/cpu, prefer to "upgrade" the rig as a whole)

In this case it made it even easier for me to go with the 7500f/4070, and I guess having better options to upgrade would gives it more "mileage" too.

Unless you need an nVidia GPU for some software that support proprietary nVidia hardware/software capabilities, I'd suggest (IF possible) a GPU trade up to the RX 7800 XT would be a better deal, plus the 16GB VRAM on this card would serve you better in the long run compared to the 12GB on the RTX 4070 or 8GB on the RTX 4060.

I'm playing Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on my R9 5900X + 32GB RAM + RX 7900 XTX at 3840x1080, max ingame with FSR3 + FG and it's glorious. Some forums I go to even have posters that say that FSR3 + FG has no screen tearing, does not require V-Sync (unlike the first iteration with Forspoken). I'm trying it with FSR3 + FG on my rig and it still look great, runs great and smooth (I have a FS 2/Pro monitor tho).

Edit _ I hope more and more games implement FSR3 + FG like what the game dev of Avatar: FoP has done....

For those not familar with Cooler Master CPU Cooler since rarely people use.
Most builders/shops will use ID Cooling than CM CPU Cooler.

HYPER 212 SPECTRUM V3 follow by HYPER 212 Halo Black which are the new model.
There's a newer model not release yet but these CPU cooler will do fine
with Ryzen 5 7500F with 65W TDP.

Current model should come with AM5 bracket which I think is a seperate pack.

Yeah I was really really really torn between 7800XT vs 4070 since it's like $4 difference for the invaderpc's prebuilts however I decided to go with 4070 instead despite it only having 12G Vram vs 16G from 7800XT.
I don't really play triple A single player titles anyway.
(Praying that DLSS frame gen would be as "future-proof" as 16G)

Since I only intend to game at 1080/144ghz atm and max I'd go is 1440/144ghz (which I doubt I will, probably will be sticking to 1080 with just higher refresh). I doubt it'll make that much of a difference between the two and the pseudo peace of mind that nvdia drivers are more "stable" + lower power/heat (although not huge) + the "marketing gimmick" benefits that comes with nvdia cards was the icing on the cake for me.

Aftershock seems cheap but then again perhaps it's because idk what's actually worth it or good.

edit: Currently leaning towards option B and upgrading the PSU to ASUS ROG STRIX 850W 80+ GOLD FULLY MODULAR (+$98)

RTX4070 is going to be replaced by RTX4070 Super which supposedly be priced the same as the RTX4070 it replace.

But currently between the 2, i will get the 7800XT, unless you need DLSS.

Bear in mind that a 3090 performs close to a 4070 ti.
So, if a 3090 can be found for cheap (which i did find), it is a 'better' choice than a 4070 or a 4070 ti.

However, there is lack of DLSS 3 / 3.5 and higher power consumption.

But, 24GB VRAM is yummy for those who are gaming at 4K and above resolution (like me).

A 7500F performs like a 5800X3D but is much cheaper (though you have to build an AM5 rig).

For those not familar with Cooler Master CPU Cooler since rarely people use.
Most builders/shops will use ID Cooling than CM CPU Cooler.

HYPER 212 SPECTRUM V3 follow by HYPER 212 Halo Black which are the new model.
There's a newer model not release yet but these CPU cooler will do fine
with Ryzen 5 7500F with 65W TDP.

Current model should come with AM5 bracket which I think is a seperate pack.

For me, the best yet very reasonably priced air cooler is Thermalright Peerless Assassin 12 range, I have the a PA12 SE in my 2nd rig, cooling my R9 3900X and it's doing about as well as when I had my Thermaltake Bigwater 3.0 cooling it.

I'd prolly replace the Bigwater 3.0 within the next 2 years at around the 5+ year mark since I bought it, and I'd prolly get another PA12 for it (but must have RGB fans since got side window on case of my main rig). Here's a pic of it (it's one big butt cooler!) in my 2nd rig, yes, using an old SOLDAM Black Knight XR-1 case...

What's the damage? Think invaderpc's set-up pricing is hard to beat for my budget of 1.5+.

Yeah but I think it's gonna be announced on CES 2024 or something and I doubt it'll be released within 1 year from 4070 so I'm guessing earliest also like April

Yeah between the 2 and the pricing of 2 in sg was a tough decision :/ only decide on 4070 simply cos of lower power/heat and DLSS etc. is bonus although I know 7800 raster faster.

Yeah good for you bud, I only intend to 1080 144ghz and 1440 max. So 4070 kinda makes sense.

Power draw also a factor, AMD card maybe cheaper but long run Nvidia save more $$ . Unless u not the one pay electric bill

Problem is the 12GB vram. You may end up buying a brand new gpu!

I am clearing my backlog of games, on a rather old game Rise of the tomb raider at 1440p the gpu already allocated 10gb vram.

On control, it too allocated 10gb vram when I am at the game intro (haven't start playing).

12gb is really cutting too close unless you don't mind dropping texture details
