SINGAPORE: CNA has reported that Prime Minister Lawrence Wong left the nomination centre today (April 23) “unexpectedly,” without speaking to the press, in a departure from convention.

The PM, who will be defending his Marsiling-Yew Tee ward, reiterated the People’s Action Party’s (PAP) stance that this election is a critical one when he delivered his balcony speech after nominations.

He said, “We are in a changed world with turbulence all around. So there is much at stake in this election. Your votes will determine your future and your children’s future.”

According to CNA, the PM “unexpectedly walked past without stopping and did not address the media” after the speech while the press was interviewing another PAP team.

PM Wong’s teammate, Senior Minister of State Zaqy Mohamad, apparently explained to the press that Mr Wong left without stopping for the media as “the prime minister has a national campaign to run.”

This election, which will take place on May 3, is widely expected to be a referendum on PM Wong and his team of PAP fourth-generation leaders. It is the first election held since Mr Wong became Singapore’s premier, and all eyes are watching to see how well his team will perform and whether he will receive a resounding mandate from voters.

Maybe he tulan

Many PAP vote in MP. Then kana playout walkover.

If he know is gonna be walkover i believe he will rather MacPherson all these cut out to assist other grc instead

Now all the solid vote lock inside MP cannot use
Can he Chut his PM power to reshuffle the team nomination or not? 😂

This is a very dangerous move by PAP. Even win also will be very close call I presume.

With SK won by WP in the last round just right beside and more young voters without Lee sentiments, Punggol will be hotly contested and next in the bag for oppo.

Analysts predicted the ground swell; either way it will expand either northward or westward from Sengkang for WP. Notice many WP candiates and eben PAP made speeches in Teochew means something. Hougang to Yip Chu Kang majority Teochew enclaves.

If luck is on WP's side either they kicked out 3 ministers or a useless monkey

Yes Punggol resident have been waiting for WP to contest but WP alway skipped this GRC

If you have went for the previous election rally held at Punggol field and seen the audience turn out, you be shocked
Because punggol was combined with pasir-ris grc, i don't think they were interested in the pasir ris side.

Me voter in Pasir Ris Punggol previously.. PAP stronghold, but SDA all along not a strong oppo to be frank..

Don’t think GKY is a lot more popular than TCH either, at least TCH being the anchor and incumbent for many terms, many will give him face..

So it’s really untested when a stronger oppo comes in.. Won’t say impossible, of course it’s always hard and harder for oppo to win.. Hope for the best, if not WP can come Pasir Ris next time..

I've been in Punggol 20 years.
PAP is not stupid. Not possible with their network of RCs and are well aware of the sentiments on the ground.

People gave opposition 36% of the votes last time round in a combined electorate of Punggol Pasir Ris. The older estate definitely propped up the percentage. Punggol itself at least 40% will vote WP .... see how LLL won her SMC and see how SXL the star performed in 2020 .... 61% against an unknown. See how WP placed their best team in Punggol and how PAP had to counter and use TCH and HSK to smoke screen. Lots of young voters with no respect for current government nor anyone for the matter plus it's an estate of 20 years.... there's nothing to build here that hasn't been built.

This is gonna be fun...... Alexis is ours. You guys can eat your hearts out....... 🤣 🍿
