The younger folks don't know, but the older folks would know what KLK refers to - the sound of chains clinking. Exactly what you pointed out.
It's not mountain out of molehill when the speech is tailored to boomers who knows very well KLK is derogatory. Just have to be more sensitive.
If I have to refer to Indians in hokkien, I'll say yin tor lang, not KLK coz I know what it means.
Everyone knows Di Siao refers to disturb. But it literally means play sperm which younger folks are less aware vs the boomers would know.
