Despite only getting less than four hours of sleep, the Workers’ Party’s Tampines GRC candidate Jimmy Tan wasted no time hitting the ground on Sunday morning.
Still feeling the adrenaline rush from last night, he said with a big smile: “Never in my wildest imagination that I am one day sitting on stage as a WP candidate, and giving my first rally speech.”
Mr Tan, 53, spent the morning at Tampines St 81 speaking to residents having their breakfast.
Accompanying him were his teammates - WP vice-chair Faisal Manap, Dr Ong Lue Ping, Ms Eileen Chong and Mr Michael Thng.
Conversations with residents have centred largely on housing prices and the cost of living, said Mr Tan, adding that many expressed deep worries about the outlook ahead.
He hopes to relay these concerns in parliament, as well as do his part in building a balanced political system in Singapore.

Also spotted at the walkabout was WP’s Tampines Changkat SMC candidate Kenneth Foo, who received compliments from some residents on his rally speech last night.
“They tell me that it was a good speech,” he told CNA, in between quick breaks from speaking to residents.
Mr Foo, who is WP’s deputy organising secretary, contested East Coast GRC in GE2020.
But he was upbeat about his ability to get going in Tampines Changkat, as WP has been active in the area “for a long time”, he said.
“I think there’s a good understanding of some of the issues on the ground, and the local knowledge will help us to understand the needs here,” he said.

Several residents were also heard asking the party’s volunteers if former WP chief Low Thia Khiang was around. Mr Low had joined the Tampines GRC team as part of their walkabout yesterday morning.
Mrs Janet Lim said she was looking forward to meeting Mr Low, who retired from politics before GE2020, after almost 30 years.
Mrs Lim, 55, also said she attended the WP’s rally last night and was impressed by the slate of new candidates.
“Very good. I think they talk about many things that average Singaporeans care about,” she said in Mandarin. “Good to see them in Tampines.”
