Shouldn't use the term 反对党, but should call them 在野党. Big difference
In overseas media, they are usually referred to as 在野党. “in the wilderness” parties. Haha
Singapore media like to call them 反对党. Actually the term 反对党gives off a negative perception. Sounds like their main task is to oppose at all cost. Last time my auntie says voting for opposition is like bringing them into parliament to block proposals and policies introduced by govt. So the negative connotation is there

Unfortunately the "other side" is proposing policies like this.

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries per capita in the world and with a global footprint, Singapore has no agency that provides Official Development Assistance (ODA) to support sustainable development in less developed countries, apart from the Singapore Cooperation Programme (SCP), a department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs...

Singapore should establish a foreign aid agency, the Singapore Agency for International Development, to direct ODA more effectively. Efforts should focus particularly on our Southeast Asian neighbours, and assist in their economic development and capacity building.

Is it really a wrong policy?

PAP claims that Singapore has to live in a rules-based international order for us to thrive. Otherwise might is right and great powers will just use their military strength to subsume their smaller neighbours.

And one key way for a rules-based international order to survive is through soft power, and for developed countries to offer their expertise and assistance to less developed ones. Nobody is straight up saying we just give away cash to other countries. Expertise can be in many forms e.g. our housing or water technology.

We cannot simply say we want all the benefits of a rules based world order and yet not pay any price for it.
