In 2010, I was just "testing waters" with my dividend investing strategy since I was still a newbie.

In 2011, there were so many events that gave me excellent opportunities to buy telcos and REITs.
-Japanese earthquake/tsunami/nuclear contamination,
-Euro Debt Crisis in PIGS,
-Arab Spring,
-US debt ceiling fight and subsequent rating downgrade.

All these events allow me to deploy most of my salary and bonuses to build up my dividend portfolio. 2011 was a super volatile year.

That's why u see such a big jump in my passive income. :D

No went through 2008 no talk.

wow 17%. I was not there in the market at that point in time. anyone caught some high yield stocks then care to share the experience?

There were opportunity everywhere in the stock market back in 2008, my company's stock price has risen 5x from its 2008 low and its normal for other stock to have risen in a range of 3x ~4x from its low till today.
(With exceptions like SMRT and such which were praised as SAFE HEAVEN back then... if you did buy your SAFE are probably in HEAVEN now)

My hands were trembling when Suntec REITS unit price broke 60 cents in early 2009... but I only start to load up after its price recovered to around 80 cents and bought most in the $1 range.

Nobody was interested in REITS back then.. it was something very new. :s8:

Bcos stock price is forward looking. Now not affected dosnt mean 3 years or 5 years later still not affected. When interest rate rise, it loses the opportunity to refinance with cheaper loan. new debt needed to finance future expansion plan might also be affected, slowing growth of the REIT.

Yield spread could also force the price of dividend paying stock down

I recently did an consolidation for the effective interest rates for all the REITS in Singapore. Note that the new listed REITS are mostly the ones with the lowest effective interest rates.

A Path to Forever Financial Freedom (3Fs): Is this the end for REITS?

My warchest around 15k for investments. Although not much, but i gather it's decent enough to scoop some reits. Im working towards getting constant dividends. House is gonna be rdy in 2016. So from now till 2016, gonna scoop some reits or dividends playing stocks. So by the time my house is ready, i do hope that my dividends accrued can be used to cushion some household expenses.

IMO don't think will drop much or even at all.. Summers no longer running, Yellen is miniBen, tapering shpuld be minimized in the near the term..

There are other issues to be concerned about ... Germany's election and the US debt ceiling .... October could be another month for good buys ... :D

I would agree with you under normal circumstances, but when Summer declare that he is no longer running on a Sunday just before Asia market opens... then its totally different.

<I have my warchest ready to buy on price weakness:D>
