I'm thinking of getting the ASUS UX501vw laptop model from the US with global warranty of course. This laptop is not available in Singapore now. The current model is the ASUS UX501jw
However, after reading the global warranty terms and conditions there's one that strikes me to cancel my thought in purchasing the laptop.
Now, here's what it said. If the item is spoil and covered by the global warranty the service centre in the country has a right to replace with a SIMILAR part if the original part is not available.
Ok, if I have the UX501vw here now and its spoil then ASUS Singapore will replace the spoil part with a similar part since the vw model and its spare parts are not here yet. Which means very likely they'll take it from the jw model. I believe ASUS Singapore will not airfreight the original part in just for your sake and you also will not want to wait for so long if you are in urgent need of your laptop, right?
If the spoil part is having the same part number as the similar replacement part then it's fine since ASUS will get the part from the same pool. What if they do not have the same part number but are similar? Will there be continuous or intermittent problem later on?
I suppose this is a risk to buy from overseas with global warranty and this will also apply to other manufacturers too.
What do you all think?
