Samsung announced a SRP of $938(Or was it $948) which probably means telco would be offering the same price for a non-contract phone once it's officially out.

And Moby or Mobilesquare will likely to be putting it at about $850 or just a little under $900 for the local sets as well..

HKG is selling it at about $780 when my colleague was there last week..

During an earlier press event, Samsung announced that its first Android 4.0 smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, will be available sometime in February 2012. Unveiled in an earlier joint press conference with Google during the All Things D: Asia conference, the smartphone was later given a price tag of S$948, without a 2-year telco contract.

Local set with it's warranty coverage will always cost more than export sets. So once it's officially release here, shops like Mody or Mobilesquare will likely to start selling local sets..Price very likely to be more ex than the export sets now but cheaper than telco for a non-contract set.

wah u get a nexus for yr first phone is like getting an EVO for your first car man! it's a beast so hope u learn how to handle it properly!

ya root when new cos when u unlock bootloader your data gets wiped. but i think there's a way to back up your stuff first.. i read it in xda forums.

anyway don't read too much into 'getting the latest update' cos stock or not, devs will rip the update apart in hours and u can get your update even if u're rooted.

I have to say using after using it for one day, i have no regrets giving up my iphone. Thanks everyone for the advise. Will root it tonight when i get home.

i might be getting GNex, so i have been trying to digest all these information.

To my understanding, when you get your unit, this will be the procedure for rooting

1. Backup (necessary? with which software?)
2. unlock bootloader and root (superboot or GNex TOOLKIT V4.1???)
3. flash rom (ARHD good?)
4. Install kernel (if i use ARHD but i wana use the very popular franco.Kernel is it possible? because i understand ARHD has a rom included
5. Then?????

Does this happen with the simcard inside ur phone?? If we wipe out the internal memory does the contacts in sim card get wiped?

this is my level of understanding after some reading. I tried doing my homework already. Will appreciate if anyone can help. Main aim is to prolong batt life .Thanks

stock is typically not good enough for most people , due to many reasons such as lack of features or too slow , etc ... best just root it and later you can decide when you want to upgrade then can upgrade without worrying your data will be wiped out

Hi i've been using my galaxy nexus for a week now. it's really one of the few android phones that you can totally live w/o having to root and all.

The main battery draw from this phone is and will always be the screen. No matter what kernel you install/flash whatever rom, do know that the difference is actually quite small. I can get 4 hrs screen on time on my nexus which is very similar to those using the franco kernel. I can also go to sleep with the 2g signal checked and wake up with only 2-4 % battery drain per night =) all those with a pure stock unrooted phone =)

I've been using other android phones and been consequently flashing and flashing lotsa roms already. but this phone is so awesome that it's really not necessary to root. just use/play with it a while first to understand what android is all about first before deciding to do anything else.

Oh you can use titanium backup to backup your phone's files (you must root ur phone first) If i'm not wrong, you can root your phone first, back up with titanium and then unlock ur bootloader.

The only reason i am seeking to root is because of the batteries issues. Since you said its survivable with stock, i gladly not root at all

Can i trouble you to descibe an average day of your phone's usage? If you awake at 6am, how long can your phone last etc.

I'm much happier after going thru 3 baseband..

The default XXKK1, normal light usage, charge once a day
Flash to XXKK6, phone feels snappy, battery last slightly longer than 1 day with same usage.
Flash to XXKL1, now with the same usage..Getting near 2 days..Very satisfied with this baseband.

Phone is flash with ARHD 2.1.4..

Btw, franco kernel is for 4.0.3 if i rem correctly while ARHD is still on 4.0.2

Agree with this one.. Nexus phones is meant for developers with the stock build, and with the unlocked bootloader etc. It couldnt be simpler to unlock and root this phone.. most of the people do root their nexus phones ..

Also surprisingly I find that nexus phones including the Galaxy Nexus is still not so popular with the general public.. For example, I know a lot of people still buying Galaxy Note rather than the Nexus! I suppose, they dont care about fast android updates etc. so long they can use the phone and all its features without any hassle.. and that makes sense for them..Understandable.

Of course, people who have used android for the past few years, especially the users since Nexus one are mostly not going to buy any other android phone apart from a nexus.. even if they do, they will root the phone and put some Cyanogen MOD or some other ROM immediately!

Just some thoughts and observations!

Yes i am..Very pleased with this baseband knowing that with my pattern of usage, will only need to charge on the 2nd day instead of the nightly affair..

basically it's 4 hours of screen on time =) as the phone's idle battery drain is so low, whether you can use up the entire day really depends on how you use ur phone. if you surf abit, an average usage will definitely get you by =) just space ur 4 hours of screen-on time properly you'll be fine!

i haven't rooted/flash my nexus phone yet and i'm still totally enjoying the google experience =) I know ppl say this is dev phone and shld root and all. but i'm of the opinion that this phone is so already so awesome so don't fix what aint spoilt!

I know wat u are saying but rooting isn't really "fixing" anything. it's different from flashing custom roms. u can still have the pure Google experience when rooted but now u get the added flexibility of using apps that u could not have while stock. Titanium backup is 1 good example.
