it's not the dropped calls which is the chief issue. When the phone goes to deep sleep with WIFI on in the vicinity of several cell stations (I suspect it's a certain brand), there is almost a 100% chance that the GSM radio will also sleep. When you move out of WIFI range, the 3G or 2G data does not continue, and your phone cannot be reached.

In fact, even before this, your GSM is already dead, and people cannot phone in.

I think the latest RADIO XXLA2 is more stable than the previous XXKL6?

My usage observation on stock ROM
4.02, -XXKL6 => after long sleep, the data get disconnected..only you wake up the phone..it started to connect again but connect slowly..the user experience is impacted as you need to wait for 15-20 sec for the H sign to come out otherwise app will not be able to get data

4.0.4, radio XXLA2=> I dont see dropping of data from long sleep..Data is almost instant after wake up from sleep..

I see..i dont use the phone in this manner luckily..Hardly keep wifi permanently on too..

:D:D

I am power conscious person..will shut down whatever not necessary..thus wifi/gps are on demand basis.

In fact quite easy to get into this ...At night ,use wifi, fall asleep, doesnt turn off wifi..and morning leave house without turning off wifi..phone permanent data out..

Will the data out be recovered by turning off radio and back on ?

Signal lost irrecoverably when Galaxy Nexus is in Standby/idle, and unable to re-connect data, phone signal bars jammed and misleading - Android 4.0.2 and 4.0.4

Reported by michaelt...@gmail.com, Today (3 minutes ago)
Phone: Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Version: GSM
OS: Android 4.0.4
Build: IMM76D
Baseband: I9250XXLA2
Kernel: 3.0.8-g034fec9
android-build@vpbs1 #1
SMP PREEMPT tue Mar 13 15:46:20 PDT 2012

(previous was a YAKJUXW phone from Singapore's SINGTEL)

When phone is left untouched overnight, data connected via WIFI, both WIFI and GSM indicators will show blue and everything seems normal.

When move out of WIFI range, the GSM strength bars will not change at all, like it's jammed. It will also not be able to form a G, 3G or H data connection at all.

When the phone is in this condition (ie. jammed signal bars, out of wifi range):

1) GSM Signal Monitoring test will show cell stations strength changing as per normal but cell strength bars on the Galaxy Nexus does not change at all.

2) Any telephone calling in to the Galaxy Nexus will get a `out of service' message.

3) SMS sent to this phone will not be received.

4) If you initiate a call with this phone, it will take more than 10 seconds to hear the first ringtone (usually 3-4 seconds). However, once you hear the first ringtone, the G sign will appear signifying resumption of data connection. Once this is done, the phone is properly reconnected and will receive voice, SMS and data properly.

5) If you put the phone to AIRPLANE MODE, then deactivate AIRPLANE MODE, GSM and data will reconnect properly, and everything will be fine.

Steps to reproduce the problem.
-------------------------------

Leave phone untouched overnight.

Notes:

a) Behaviour remained unchanged from 4.0.2 to 4.0.4 - all unrooted stock phones.

b) This issue differs from issue 28133 because issue 28133 does not happen to me at all.

c) This behaviour happens both when roaming and in the home network.

Actually if u got wifi at home/workplace, leaving it on and connected is a much better battery saving measure IF you don't leave it plugged in constantly.

That's what i do..Connected to wifi at home cos fibre line makes download alot faster and at work cos the signal here is very lousy..

The only time i switch it off is when i'm out..

Same. I use Llama to switch wifi off and on depending on my locations - no need to worry if leaving the wifi switched will cause any battery drain. :D Also use it to switch on wifi if using Google Maps to speed up lock on. :)

Hey Guys,

Got two topics to address:

Android 4.0.4

Need to check, I understand a few on yakju are not receiving OTA updates anymore and that it might have been pulled at the moment.

Am excited about it until I understand two things:

1. There is not more 0 shutter lag, the idea is so that the camera has time to focus and take better photos. I understand the idea behind it but if I wanted to focus and take photos I'll hold down the blue button myself, 0 shutter may not be clear but they do come in handy for that instant moment (For that quick "stomp" shot u don't want the person you're taking to notice) - Can anyone verify that 0 shutter no longer exists?

2. Time lapse mode requires you to turn on airplane mode...is this true? I used time lapse mode for when I'm driving at times just for fun, but that doesn't mean I want to accidentally miss an important phone call for a time lapse video that's not as important

Apart from these two, can anyone verify that picture quality is actually better as some have said?

Chrome Browser

I've switched to Chrome Browser recently and I love it cause I use Chrome on my Mac too, the syncing of bookmarks and "other devices" where I left off is great!

I did notice some things though.

For the stock browser, if I clicked a map or select directions, I get to choose to open Google Maps app for example for directions.

For Chrome, however, it opens the Google Maps in its chrome browser and not via app. Is there a way I can set chrome to force it to open via app and not internally from the browser?

Thanks guys!

anyone here can recommend a place to buy flip cases (diary/wallet types) for the Gnex? The accessory thread is quite dead.

Try Simlim.

If you're willing to be more adventurous, try sunsky-online dot com

Type "Galaxy Nexus" in the search and you can get "leather" cases for as low as SGD$2 and real leather cases for SGD$15.

Great if you can get a pool of people to buy together to lower shipping...I ended up getting my TPU case for just $0.80. =)

Thanks. Need to get by tomorrow, so online is out of the question. Won't have time to have it shipped before I leave. Gmarket order cock up and send me the case for galaxy NOTE.
