I am on AOKP Build 31 with Franco Kernel. The zero shutter lag works.

There is no shutter lag once it's focused. There was a change in behavior, early firmware it doesn't even focus when you try to take the 1st shot. Now it does.

You won't miss calls when recording timelapse videos, recording will be saved and stopped.

For Chrome it's an issue with the browser, doubt there's much you can do except wait for an update.

Ya, nexus is rock stable without root too. It is still better to root once u get the phone without worry any need of wiping data in future.

I got the nexus so that I can root to install custom roms.

But when I got it I was like WTH lets give the stock rom a try. It was on 4.0.2 and auto rotate is damn slow on it.

So I thought okay update to 4.0.4. However no matter how many times I tried pressing the update button it just wouldn't update. (I have a yajku BTW)

Also tried the method thats posted here. no help either!

Last method is to manually update (Factory Images for Nexus Devices - Google Support for Nexus Phones and Flagship Devices - Google Code) But well need to unlock bootloader. Since I am unlocking...might as well gain root access and install custom roms

if you absolutely don't want to unlock and root, and install custom roms, stick to other androids. But if u have existing software problems then u are quite screwed because they will take a long time to come

Ya, just use GNex Toolkit as per byrant_16 and follow the instruction...Choose the all in one option..
