Here to ask for a phone recommendation: I don't wanna wait for the SGS3 to launch next week, so should I get HTC One X or Galaxy Nexus?

Plus point for One X: latest quad-core phone
Minus point for One X: afraid that the price will drop quickly (cos its HTC)

Plus point for Galaxy Nexus: cheaper by $50 :s13:
Minus point for Galaxy Nexus: "old" phone, dual core only.

To play games while travelling, and yet still have enough battery to last me while I'm out.

Games - one X has the upper hand if you like tegra optimized games...definitely looks better and One X has a better screen compared to Galaxy Nexus...more natural. I suppose also sound quality from One X speakers is better than Galaxy nexus which is rather soft

Battery - Both pretty much sucks, I dont think both can last u out one day when u are playing games. The Galaxy Nexus u can buy extra original 2000mah battery on ebay but will give u problem if you use a case since u have to take out and change. One X battery is built in, so u will have to buy those mobile chargers which is heavy

That said, u probably have to lug extra battery or mobile chargers out, or dont game alot less than 2 hours, turn off GPS, 3g etc etc to optimize battery life. maybe give you +/- 8hrs

Thanks for your detailed reply!

Regarding battery, I don't like to switch battery. However I do have a portable charger that I use sometimes when I urgently need it. Games are not my main feature, but for a single activity I would say I spend the most time on it. Other activities like checking mail, Facebook, reading news - individually they won't add up to the time I spend playing games, but collectively they come close.

One X looks pretty strong but one thing holding me back is that I heard it's still laggy even with quad core.

Do you own a Galaxy Nexus yourself? How's your experience?

Then I guess u stick with the portable charger. However I hope its not those AA battery type when the current might not be enough. Get only those built in type from Sanyo or Sony.

One X's strength is the speaker, screen quality and tegra chip for tegra games compared to Galaxy Nexus. The lag I presume its because of the Sense 4.0 overlay. I played with the demo set can feel a bit but not enough to piss u off.

Yeah I am a Galaxy nexus user. most live wallpaper still lags, app drawer fly in and out also can see abit lag but not an issue. I am not a heavy gamer but battery life is tops 12hours and 3+ hours screen time before i reach like 5% battery life. No games lag on mine, but then again I am using custom rom and kernel and my GPU is overclocked to 512mhz (stock is 308mhz)

oh and stock ICS keyboard is much much much much much better than the One X keyboard which sticks together and makes typing hard and full of mistakes.

built quality both comparable. But drop tests i seen online, both phones if dropped without protection and screen face down = cracked screen. So don't think the gorilla screen (one X only) is going to give u any good protection.

Lol that's cos Gorilla glass is scratch proof, not shatter proof... it will still break if you drop it!

Then navigation should work, unless u are choosing to navigate to a location where it is impossible.

yeah alot of people have the misconception. So actually what I am getting to is that even though the galaxy nexus is fragile, the One X with gorilla screen is no better.

I think we need Godzilla screen. OR nokia 3310 built :s13:

Very nice, but perhaps you should share your usage too?

actually if u noticed...he has alot of battery savings enabled...which is what he meant when he says "battery of Gnex with custom rom"

1. His wifi is on most of the time
2. He uses hotplug governer, which switches 1 CPU core off when its not required
3. He underclocked the processor to 1ghz

Option 2 and 3 u can only do it with custom rom and kernel...so if you are not going to do that, u will probaby not be able to achieve the battery life he is getting.

Just got my GNEX and running AOKP M4. However, I seem to be having problems with the MTP. When I flashed franco M3 kernel, MTP was glitchy and would give me errors when I try to copy over files. I reflashed AOKP without franco kernel and MTP works as normal.

Anyone else has a similar problem?

no problems here for me. I am running AKOP b34. You might want to ditch the AKOP M4 and run nightly instead
