I'm also on rooted stock firmware. To get OTA update, I suppose I need to flash my recovery back to stock. Update. Flash TWRP recovery. Flash SuperSU.zip. Correct?

That's right. OTA updates will unroot Nexus devices. Too bad OTA Rootkeeper does not work on 4.3 anymore or we can just update and be done with it.

Install the Anytag NFC launcher app from Play Store. Open it, put ur kopitiam/nfc card (some EZ link cards might work, depends on age/luck). It will memorize the id of the card, and you can assign macros to run when it detects that id again.

Since it's not really reading the nfc data stored inside the card, just the id, in this scenario it works better, since I can use the same card to perform different functions on different devices. For example, when I tap the card on my Nexus 4, it activates wifi hotspot. Tapped on the Nexus 7, it activates wifi, which it will then connect to when it sees the hotspot.

For anyone interested in the Nexus 7 (2013) 16GB, Amazon is now selling the device directly with free shipping via Amazon Global. I have just placed my order. =)

I enabled the setting to disable wifi on standby, but the battery still dropped to 61% after 14hrs at home doing nothing. This is marginally better than yesterday, but still quite unacceptable.

Perhaps some of you can share your standby battery life? At this rate, I still have to charge everyday. This is not quite what I expected. My Nexus 4 with a smaller battery can last longer in standby.

Only 2% drop when I wake up to for the day. That's about 6 hours of sleep. I suggested WiFi at first because there are users with similar battery problem on the xda forum and tweaking the WiFi seems to do the trick.

When you said you reset the tablet, did you mean a factory reset or a reboot? Assuming the latter, I would suggest you hunt down the misbehaving app/service next. There is this app called BetterBatteryStatus (paid on Play but free on xda), which might be able to help identify the culprit for draining your battery. I have never used it before but the screenshots do provide quite a bit more info than the stock battery app.

You can try to clear data then force stop Google Services Framework. Then check for update again. Always works for me :s13:

I am undecided between getting a note 8.0 or waiting for nexus 7
