The speakers is actually pretty loud. and of decent quality.

The problem was with the headphones volume.
Apparently there was a software limit by default.
Surefire888 pointed me to the solution.

to those that has gotten their tablets: how much SGD for the 16gb one plus shipping and all those extra service charges?

So I decided to order one from hwmook's thread on Electronics Bazaar, 380sgd for 32gb, good price imho. Can't wait for it to come reading through this thread and watching videos on youtube!
