Who says cannot? And who says must root then can?

The only reason why you can't install directly from play store is because it is not meant for tablet.

But there are many ways to get whatsapp on tablet.

One way is to go to this link using the tablet browser WhatsApp for Android

There are other ways to get it to.

Sigh...Going to pay another visit to service centre soon.
The dreaded 1 side audio came back again.
The last time I went there with this problem, my N& was stuck for 5 days. Only gotten it back last week.
They supposedly disassembled my cover, replaced some components and said the contact was loose but they tightened it.
Basket, it's not as if I play ping-pong with the tablet. How come the components keep getting loose??

Tell you honestly, once any device goes into service centre and requires to pry open the device, the device integrity is no longer there. Once the screws are taken out, no mater how tight you try to screw back, the device sure is still loose.

And fyi is not good to tighten too tight. As it might cause the device to be very rigid and when it falls to the ground, chance of the housing to crack is very high.

What upsets me the most is that I had absolutely no problem with the unit since the day I bought it.
The 1 sided audio came only 1 month or so ago.
Initially I thought it was my earphones but then I tried a number of earphones and all were the same. I can manage to get the sound back if I rock it side to side.
After a while I got tired of doing that and asked for warranty coverage. Little did I know the problem will come back so soon. And I take good care of it too.

I'm not sure how the rest of the owners in SG are faring with their sets.
But I feel that perhaps in their quest to cut costs, Asus did not do a proper job.
Or maybe it's just me and my arse luck when it comes to electronics stuff.

I guess you were unlucky. What you can do is that if you go back reporting the same issues they should be replacing the sound card.

I have a nexus 7 3G. My main playing game is Real Racing 3 , but i notice it drains my n7 battery very fast. Even after i quit the game , clear it from recent apps , it seems like still running the app, even the tablet feel hot.
Need to restart den the game will "really close"

Anyone know whats the issue ?

It is android.

Simply because, android don't really close the apps in background immediately even if you clear it from recent. It is still in memory. This allows us as the user if we want to relaunch the app again. If so it will be faster than a completely "just starting up" app.

However android is smart. Once after it realise that the user doesnt require the app, and confirms by there isn't an app listed in the recent panel, it shall close it.

Urm, the thing is, how long does it take for it to be smart? LOL!

As in how long does it take to figure out I am not using the app any time soon and then close it completely? Am asking simply because if it takes a while and there are many apps in the background, I can imagine the battery will be flat pretty soon especially if one has been watching videos or gaming.

On an unrelated topic, when I download apps or games from Google Play, my understanding is they are mostly formatted for Android phones. Since the Nexus 7 has a 7 inch screen, how will most apps or games that are NOT specially written for Android tablet react?

Will it be a small display on a large screen i.e. thick black border around it, or will it try to fill up the screen size and end up being blur/pixelised in the process?

10-15mins. It will start once you have cleared the list. But by right this apps that are in background shouldn't consume much of a battery. Unless its a super hungry resource apps like games, videos and others.

Doesn't matter the screen size nowadays. It is still goes by pixels of the device. Our n7 is at 1280 by 720 (if I rmb correctly). This are one of the standards in apps for various major brand HP, tablet etc.

For instance now xperia z can go full hd. But my friend plays candy crush before the current update max is 720.

For more than a year now, I have been using a app called Fast Reboot (free on PlayStore). Whenever I feel that certain feels laggy or taking a long time to open, I would run Fast Reboot, and it would clear the logjam. Works well; regardless of what Google claims that it is smart enough to clear unwanted apps that are in the background.

But even HWM review on 7" tablets said Nexus 7 was let down by the lack of apps written for tablets leh.

As I have an iPhone, I was thinking of pairing it with an Android tab. The other alternative I guess is buy an Android phone (possibly Galaxy 4) and pair it with mini iPad but I find the mini iPad a little too big & heavy compared to Nexus 7.

Most Google apps are tablet optimized. Only a few 3rd party apps are tablet optimized. But since nexus 7 isn't really a huge tablet, there isn't really much of a difference. But what do you intend to use your tablet for?
