I think Nexus 8 is coming out soon, N7 price has dropped recently.
Was having the exact same issue with my nexus 7 1st gen suddenly not able to charge , went to Asus service center and as the warranty has run out, Asus CSO told me that to replace the motherboard or battery (which they claim is the root cause) will cost me ~$300 or ~$120 respectively.
Thank goodness I didn't bite the bait as I have manage to rectify the problem without spending a single cent !!! Apparently , this is a known problem which is affecting many Nexus 7 users and google has recently ack the fault and looking at the cause of the problem .
Google Nexus 7 slow charging issue reported by users, potential fixes put forward
For those having the same issue and has no warranty left on your tablet, can try the following (if you want) which solve the problem for me.
1 - Turn off tablet
2 - Remove the back cover
3 - Disconnect battery connection
4 - Remove the micro-screws to the speaker and the micro-USB charging port/headphone jack unit.
5 - Disconnect the micro-USB(charging port) connector from the ribbon
6 - re-seat and reconnect all the connectors.
Got this from google product forum and it worked for me. What I also did was to use a small eraser to gently rub and clean the connector from the charging ribbon.
Note that this is taken from google product forum and should be perform at your own risk .. but it did help me save $300![]()
Hi, did anyone else try out this method? I had the same problem with the tablet for last 6 months but had been using the plug in plug out method which worked until 2 weeks ago.. Is it risky to take out and clean the usb port?
I'm sure the default apps and the os will eat up few gb away. But since it runs in Android stock, it will take up much lesser compared to those with additional interface installed, eg HTC sense.
guys i'm looking to buy a 3g nexus 7 32GB from store. any idea which challenger branch sell it? also, is it using micro or normal sim? also, can it use any apps to make phone calls?

Just got my hands on this awesome tablet (late to the party I know). However, it can't seem to detect my supplementary SIM card (tied to a number but can't receive calls) which I normally use for my tablets. Normal SIM cards work fine.
Anyone knows how I can solve this please?
u meant ur multisim doesn't get any 3G/4G connection?
Probably your APN settings wasn't detected so you might need to key in the APN setting manually.
Yours is the 2012 version? Because the 2013 version is here
