Following several Pixel 11-specific bugs after the phone’s launch, another one reportedly breaks NFC tap-to-pay, used for contactless payments. But this one is affecting more than just the Pixel 11.

A slew of reports on Reddit have been posted within the last two weeks regarding a new Google Pixel bug that affects NFC payments (via Android Authority). Users have been reporting that their Pixel devices can no longer use tap-to-pay, whether directly in the Google Wallet app or at automatic transit terminals that don’t require the app to be open.

The issue isn’t affecting just the Pixel 11, so this can’t be piled onto the list of device-specific issues users are coming across – of which there are a good few. The Reddit posts and comments within list Google Pixel models ranging from the Pixel 8 to the new Pixel 11 Pro XL. The bug is agnostic to model or series, given it’s still supported.

The obvious response, noted by more than a few commenters, suggests using the Pixel 11 correctly. The NFC antenna is placed slightly higher than on other models, so the first suggestion appears to be “move your phone” to solve the Google Pixel’s NFC bug.

Of course, this would only apply if the Pixel 11’s NFC antenna were alone in experiencing this bug. Because it isn’t, it’s easier to point at a software update that made NFC unusable with Google Wallet. Some users note NFC still works in other functions, but not with payments.

Google has yet to respond, it seems. That doesn’t mean the company isn’t aware of the Pixel bug, but it might suggest users will need to wait a little longer for a fix. That being said, loss of tap-to-pay is a pretty big deal for a phone in 2026.

Are your NFC payments working?

I've been using my Pixel 9 Pro Fold for two years now and recently had some selfie camera issues
Its out of warranty but still submitted a support ticket and found that there is a replacement program due to some Pixel 9 hardware flaw.

Sent in my Pixel 9 Pro Fold via DHL and they are now sending me a Pixel 11 Pro Fold wtf

Poor QC on the P9PF but guess it worked in my favour?
Now thinking if I should just sell it and go back to a regular slab phone
Maybe a Samsung 8 fold?

This sounds like something Apple would do instead. Pretty surprising coming from Google. :o
Anyways, congrats to you for a free upgrade!

Yup no damage but the selfie cam just stopped working suddenly which is inconvenient cos face unlock doesn't work anymore.

But a year ago just before my warranty expired I had a connectivity issue where my 5G just dies after I open the fold. I got it repaired under warranty but learnt that it was a hinge issuing which may have been what caused the selfie camera failure as well.

Thanks haha!
I think it's largely because the P9PF had a number of inherent hardware issues causing early failure so they took the step to introduce a replacement program rather than get more bad press.

I actually had to get the hinge repaired last year as well that was causing my SIM card/connectivity issues.

I've been following the Pixel Fold sub Reddit for sometimes and people have been perpetually reporting issues. Google's been doing replacements with P10Fs but guess they must be running out of stock.

Man... feels like you do not want it.

You can redirect the 11 pro fold to my preferred self-collect locker bro. 😝
Haha I need a replacement phone for sure, now using my old Nothing (1) phone (which actually feels quite nice after using a clunky foldable for 2 years).

But my confidence in Google foldables have dipped considerably since owning 1. Might sell it and go back to a slab form factor (maybe Pixel 11 Pro XL?) but the passport form Samsung Fold 8 looks tempting....

i concur... i also had issues... with the screen (maybe hinge related) and sim tray (maybe also hinge related) that is why after it was fixed.. i stop using... hm... i guess its time to exercise that hinge more!!!
