lol some people don't even use the word "android" they only know Apple or Samsung... this is already ingrained into lots of peoples minds. Only techies or phone nerds will know all the different brands and models in the Android world.
ya that's why. all not exposed to different brandings.

but having part locally for repair officially doesn't that mean they are planning something soon.. I have my hope still.. it launches here, unless anybody can tell me the same for pixel 5 or 4a 5G which doesn't launch locally but can fix in ctdi then probably its just SOP to have part to repair despite not selling it locally
Carrying the same hope too lol

Wow that a long wait... seem like will stay in customs for quite awhile...
Saw a new review on Hot Deal Shop, that guy received his 256GB Pixel 6 already, and he did mention that it took him another 1+ week for custom clearance after he received an update that his Pixel 6 had arrived at SG Customs, and a few more days thereafter to receive the phone. So, I'd expect to wait 2 weeks at least.

Hihi folks!

I see alot of direct purchase of US set without so called "unlocked". So it will still work here, except for the 5G and some apps may not work propoerly (as I sort of gather from reading through the pages.. ) ?

I'm deciding between p6 and p6p (don't exactly need fancy camera but storage does help) and was wondering what else to note if I get from US vs "unlocked" ? Unlocked means better compatibility with local telco?

Thank you!

I believe the 'locked' one will be locked to their telco provider. Hence unable to be used locally

Hm. but how would we know which ones are "locked"? I assume those sold by the local telcos?
I'm looking to get a colleague to help me buy from the US haha

Locked handset are lock to the telco sim and signal, best ask your friend to buy from Google directly to be safe..
locked handset will be a pain to unlock you need to call the telco and stuff not sure exactly how it works.

All SG phones are not locked i presume.

What's the difference between a locked and unlocked phone?

The difference is that a locked phone has a software code on it that prevents you from using it on another network. An unlocked phone either doesn't have the software lock on it or someone was able to get a code that unlocks the software. Once a device is unlocked, you can pop out the SIM card and put in a different SIM and get service.

Not that keen to take the plunge after reading reports that the Feb update broke WiFi since I am using P6 as my daily device.... :(

Hm.. ya since we can just pop in any telco's sim..

doesn't make sense to lock at manufacturer (the mobile brands I mean) so it has to be the telco themselves that do it and want to bind customers. Then they will have to at least offer super cheap handsets/contract or services to get ppl to want that then..

Thank you to those who shared your knowledge!
