Quote: “This teardown confirms what we've suspected of the Pixel 6's 5G mmWave functionality—it does not seem very well thought out. For starters, mmWave is not a great phone feature. It gets outsized attention because carriers use mmWave to justify 5G speed claims in their commercials. The truth, however, is that almost no one has reliable access to mmWave.

Even if you could find a mmWave network with the Pixel 6, though, the Pixel 6 has only one mmWave antenna, which sits along the top edge of the phone (in a very visible plastic window).

Compare this Pixel design decision to that in the Galaxy S21, which has two mmWave antennas, each located on a long edge of the phone, and there's a greater likelihood that the Galaxy S21's mmWave signal will operate better in either landscape orientation. Qualcomm's original mmWave documents recommended four antennas, one on each side of the phone, because it's so easy to block a mmWave signal with your hand.

Sadly iFixit seems to have abandoned the Pixel line, with the last full teardown from the site being the Pixel 4. One thing I really miss is iFixit's investigation of the chips on the motherboard. It would be nice to get a look at the Google Tensor SoC, that discrete Samsung Exynos 5G modem.”

When I was investigating the phones, the 6 Pro’s power behaviour was quite weird to me, as I saw best-case baseline power figures of around 640mW, and sometimes this inexplicably would also end up at 774mW or even higher. What this reminded me of, was the power behaviour of the OnePlus 9 Pro, which also suffered from extremely high baseline power figures. Both the 6 Pro and the 9 Pro advertise themselves as having LPTO OLED panels, but both of them very clearly do not behave the same as what we’ve seen on the Note20Ultra or the S21Ultra phones. The 6 Pro also only goes up to up to 750 nits 100% APL peak brightness in auto-brightness mode under bright ambient light, which is significantly lower than the S21U’s 942 nits. I think what’s happening here is that the Pixel 6 Pro simply doesn’t have the most state-of-the-art display, and thus is quite less efficient as what we find on the competition. It does kind of make sense for the price-point of the phone, but also explains some of the battery behaviour.

For 5G, you need to sub for the service right? I only remember I get 5G signal when they were having trial then.

Still thinking which to get, between P6 & P6P - like the constant security updates over the next years, and would like good battery life, will be using 2 SIMs. Looks like battery wise quite similar between both, and need to turn off 5g to get good battery life lol.

Anyone in a similar situation, and which did u choose?

I would still get a P6 as I do not need a huge phone and 5G. Plus, after few years when pixel 7 or 8 come out, surely will change to another one. haha

I'm only thinking to get P6 128GB or 256GB model.

Then you better look elsewhere. Cause from what i know, pixel has only 1 sim only. The esim may not work with the local telcos.

Another thing is. If the pixel is able to use our local 5G SA, then turning on 5g or not. I rather leave it on. 5G SA speed is rather crazy fast. 450Mbps to 850Mbps is fantastic. Even downloading contents is blazing fast. There was once a saying, the last time when 4G launched. Once you turn on 4G you wont wanna use 3G.

So to me, after using 5G SA on my S21+ for almost 3 months. I can safely say i wont be going back to 4G any time soon.

Does your telco provide e-sim ?
If don't have, can cross Pixel 6 off your list :)

:( Even if I try M1 eSIM ?
That you got to try at your own risk. The phone is not sold in any telcos here. The profile may or may not work properly.

Even 5G may not be supported. According to Xonix, the volte has been working with singtel and starhub network. Using m1 sim or esim also may not work.

You really got to be a pixel fan in order to use it. Else you probably get crippled network capabilites. For m1 users, you probably drop to 3G during calls.

Almost 24 hours liao.
  • Size and weight is HUGE compared to Pixel 5.
  • Very slippery. :(
  • Battery is good - lot of games, google maps when driving, youtube music (major battery guzzler), still left 52%. Slightly lesser than Pixel 5. Phone was still syncing Google Photos though, so likely to be better tomorrow. I turned off adaptive battery.
  • Speed is noticeable better than Pixel 5. No signs of throttling.
  • Fingerprint...... SUCKS when compared to Pixel 5. Maybe it's something to get used to. It's testing my patience. Not much choice as phones nowadays are on screen fingerprint. :(
Overall good, likely need time to adjust. Biggest reason for upgrade was for video recording, which I haven't tested yet.
May i know for the fingerprint part, how many fingers profiles can it be registered ?
